There are probably bigger stories for Freo this year (Mundy’s agelessness, Brayshaw’s emergence as an A-Grade midfielder, Fyfe’s profligacy in front of goal), but to my eye it looks like Darcy has really turned the corner this year to becoming an elite ruckman.

The two things I really wanted to see from him this this year – an uptick in contested marking and increasing his hit-outs to advantage – have both gone to an elite level. His HOTA rate (38%) is at the Gawn/NicNat level. More than that, he’s shown he can be a great contributor in the forward line, which we really need given out lack of depth for talls there. His timing on leads in the forward line is probably better than any of our tall forwards, meaning he can actually get some ‘easy’ goals when we are on top in the midfield, which is something we are sorely lacking.

He's a really smart player, and his decision-making is excellent (and not just for a ruckman). His tap to Schulz for a goal on the weekend showed how quick a thinker he is. But he’s also tough; he had 8 tackles on the weekend. He took on Goldstein and Campbell largely by himself, and despite still rounding into rucking fitness I thought he made them look pretty ordinary. Once he gets a bit more fitness and game time, I think he’s a chance to be a real difference maker.

That word 'profligacy' stands out like a dog's doober - no problem with it, but if anyone wants to Google the term make sure it's spelt correctly.

He is becoming a very very good player, to add to our Pantheon of young guns. Let's hope he can stay on the park

And hopefully, we will get to see him unleash these skills and kick a few against that pusillanimous mob up the road

Any idea when his contract runs out. I hope we have him tied up for a few years as I think he may be more important than Cerra to us in the long run. While I hope we keep both we do have a few very capable backups for Cerra. (With apologies to Meek who may yet become a decent ruckman)

Haven't you all spent the last three years questioning his ability?

That’s because for the last three years he hasn’t shown his current level of ability ... so it has been questioned. There’s nothing terribly strange about that is there?

All that has happened with Darcy, is that he has regained confidence in his knee. We always knew that when that happened, he would fulfil the promise he showed in that amazing debut year. I don't really know why anyone is surprised that it has happened. (except maybe Duffers, Haggers, Russellers and Healyerrs.)

Walter, do you think that maybe there is a common thread with all these really talented nineteen year olds playing football? That as developing kids best to keep the powder dry, um until they develop?

We've continuously said that Cerra, Brayshaw, Darcy, Logue are no good. When for kids they've been doing amazing well.

Its like you don't know the game. Its moronic.

Meek might yet turn out to be pretty handy as well.

There is no doubt Hodor is already a target for Victorian clubs.

Hodor had a cross with Pav on the news tonight - he's tossed the razor and the hairbrush. Mundy's having a huge impact on the club, by the midseason bye half the team will resemble homeys.
