TOPIC: Treacy

There’s been quite a bit of commentary about Treacy over the last couple of weeks, some of it a bit critical. Can I suggest that we cool our jets on this guy.
He basically got a game because we were soooooo desperate for a tall forward. Any suggestion that he would make an immediate impact was unfair given his situation. He is 18 (19?) years old, didn’t play competitive footy last year and all clubs ignored him in the draft. He’s also had a disrupted preseason. Given that scenario I’d say he’s done an amazing job to even make it into the first team, especially given the time that is usually allowed for tall players to develop. While he probably isn’t at AFL standard at the moment I think he’s shown enough to suggest he’s the real deal and we may have picked up a bargain, but it may take longer than a few games for him to have a significant impact. Patience could be the key, as could some time in the WAFL but I have a good feeling about him.

Agreed Walter. He is only 18 so too early to judge.

Given he has been compared with Darcy in regard to being able to jump in and be a star from day one, it is worth remembering that Darcy had the number 1 big man job thrown at him and had to step up. Treacy is at 2 or 3 in the pecking order, and has less pressure to perform. But, I do think, had Darcy, Meek, and Lobb all been out of contention this year, Treacy would have stepped up and given a similar effort to what Darcy gave in his first 10/15 games. Cut him some slack, and let him develop at his own pace. Remember where Sandi was at 19? then think about where Sandi got to.

When I was nineteen I was crap at football, I dropped many over head marks but I always had my hands in the air. He needs to concentrate on winning the football.

Touch or go here. I think Sturt should probably come in for treacy and let him develop at peel for now. I think Liam Henry also came in to early and he was not upto it yet!
Treacy has some nice attributes but missed a couple of simple marks and his goal kicking was poor from the 2 set shots he had , probably nerves and compared to his preseason.
I still think he has shown enough signs to maybe give him a week, but honestly against a premium defence like the Eagles he probably won’t get much of a look , whereas Sturt will kill you if you at least don’t respect him

So apparently he is in for Saturday's game. Maybe JLo thinks that a game against North Melbourne will boost his confidence.

Hypen, That's really really harsh on a young kid. He might not get carried through a grand final, but h'es going to to get more kicks, marks and handballs that he 'nearly' gets
