I'm going to say he's Ballas 2 or better? or too early to judge ?

Ballass was AA standard, freakish goal sense, manic in his attack, until the inevitable decline in the last few years. Schultz looks more like a handy 50 goal per season small forward, but not in Ballas’ league.

Ballas never kicked 50 goals in a season.

Schultz.... Schultz.........Schulllllltttttttzzzzzzzzz.

Doesn't quite have the same ring to it.

But seriously, he is playing the same role that Ballas did, and is as much a neccessity as Hayden was for the forward line.

Oh, I hope Schultz ends up a pale, pedestrian, 50 goal a year version of Ballas.

Geez, anyone complaining about a forward that can kick straight isn’t thinking about what our score line would look like if we left it to Fyfe and Lobb. Schultz crumbing off Tabs and Treacy for the next couple of years sounds good to me.

... and, using Schultz as an example, I think we should also be recognising the improvement that some of our fringe players have shown over the last couple of years. Others include Switkowski, Aish and Collier. We have been critical of player development under RoLy ... maybe something has changed.

(Oops ... Colyer)

Well he needed to do something with his spare time after the State election.

I'm just a teeny bit worried that if Gil is reading Dockerland, Freo are going to lose premiership points and money for having 2 extra players on our list.

Schultz is like a Ballas who doesn’t have the temper/niggle in him, and stays on his feet.

Which is to say, he’s not really like Ballas.

It’s a great point about keeping his feet. He also is excellent at timing his leads and keeping the ball in front of him. We’ve never really had a player like him, but he reminds me of a workman-like version of Paul Medhurst.

Coyler please. Surely it's not that hard is it? And let's not forget Hambling while we're at it.

I reckon Medhurst is one of our most underrated forwards. Hard to shine in the shadow of The Purple Jesus, I guess.

but, workman-like, he was not...

I don’t think I ever bagged Schulz, just kinda never had any expectations after early showings.

Firming as a favourite player now though. The effort is all very well, but positioning, decision making and execution have caught up big time.
