I mentioned some of the academy kids in a different thread yesterday but I thought this article in the West on Jesse Motlop deserved it's own thread. A good read on what he's been up to and where he sits at the moment. Fingers crossed he continues his development while not getting high enough to be bid on in the first 20 picks at the draft this year.

..South Fremantle coach Larry Cavallo has plans to switch him between the midfield and forward line to show AFL recruiters another side to his game.
Against the Falcons Motlop finished the day with 17 possessions and six tackles to go with his two majors, including the goal of the day midway through the third quarter with a stunning side-step. "I did the whole pre-season in the midfield. I'm finding it pretty fun at the moment."
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

It might not matter how much attention young Motlop is getting. The way we are going so far we might have all of the picks inside 20.....

With our endless run of injuries and inability to keep players on the field he's probably hopeful he will go early.

I wasn't happy when I read this part about Gold Coast...

"It’s hardly surprising that AFL rivals Fremantle and Gold Coast were so keen to get priority access to the Aquinas College teen in this year’s national draft.
The Dockers were recently granted approval through their Next Generation Academy, even though the Suns wanted a slice of him as part of their Northern Territory zoning"

I'm beginning to hate those privileged Coasters who've had more than their fair share of handouts...

GC are able to add those players at no cost outside of the draft as part of the AFL's concessions. They added two first round picks as 'pre-selections' who were able to skip the draft and bids last year (Alex Davies and Joel Jefferey).

There's no way they should have had any right to Jesse considering he lives over here and spends most of his time in Perth.

West Coast will grab him with their first pick.

Unfortunately, the way young Jesse is playing, I think he'll go inside the first 20 picked at the draft so our best draft strategy is to get picks as high as possible through shrewd trading and look at snaring either Jesse Motlop or Jacob van Rooyen, currently training with the club, who looks like being a top 10 pick, 194 cm, 18yo, CHF.

IF, heaven forbid, Adam did go home who would give up the top 10 pick which would be required as payment. I'm certain he wouldn't want to go to either North Melbourne or GWS who are looking at being duds for at least a couple of seasons. Or maybe the Saints who paid overs for Brad Hill. Adam is a gem and I hope to see him in purple for many years to come.
