No, Drubbing, but I do believe the eagles administration might, they have not had any trouble believing some much more unlikely scenarios over the last 20 odd years.

The cheats have won. He’s been let off with a 2 year, backdated suspension.

If that's the precedent then it means you are better off getting caught cheating the drug test than getting caught cheating.

Top. Men.

They haven't won, and he has not been let off.

He has been suspended for 2 years.

But you wait for the countdown to his return. Its going be like Benny all over again.

Oh what he has overcome. We applaud you.

But don't mention it to them, otherwise I fear the name Ryan Crowley popping up.

He has been let off. The absolute minimum sentence was handed down. If ASADA, or whatever they’ve rebranded themselves as, had taken half as long to investigate and process the charge, little Willie would probably have gotten away with a 1 year, backdated ban.

Have a look at the reports in Worst online, especially the “fans” comments.

Never have so many celebrated the lack of punishment for what is essentially an admission of cheating.

It sucks that Ryan Crowley got given a year off and his career effectively ended, for taking an across the counter painkiller for backache, but Rioli gets two backdated years for literally taking the piss out of the drug testing regime.

Only Egirls fans can find anything to celebrate. True sports fans should be appalled at this decision.

Do WADA look at these outcomes, or have ASADA assessed on their behalf?

It is pretty much a let off. He was suspended pending investigation. Which if guilty, delivered a 4 year ban. Career over.

Instead they took 2 years to decide a 2 year ban was good enough and he's right for games this year.

And ASADA now call themselves Sports Integrity Australia, probably to distance themselves from all their previous decisions. Irony isn't dead.

Tragic, ASADA or Sports Integrity Australia do look at these decisions and if they're unhappy they can appeal but the appeal is to the AFL appeal system, which is to say utterly pointless. This is why they bypassed the system during the Essendon drug cheating scandal and handballed direct to WADA who could appeal to CAS. Hence, the cheats got suspended.

This 2 year discount shows the AFL still want to rort the system and have no commitment to integrity.

SIA (ASADA) might still appeal or again go straight to WADA to bypass the AFL again.

Let's hope so.

I think in all the circumstances a two-year suspension is appropriate.

I look forward to WADA stepping in.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

It's essentially a 4 year ban when you consider it will still take him another 2 years to get match fit.

I agree, Bizkit.

The default penalty is four years. That 'may' be reduced if there are mitigating circumstances. However, no mitigating circumstances have been promoted anywhere.

I'd also point out that Rioli had two offences (treated as one incident when it comes to WADA processes) Rioli interfered with a drug test (same as failing a drug test) and he tested positive for cannabis on gameday (failed drug test) It's very hard to see how the AFL found mitigating circumstances sufficient to cut his penalty in half from either of those two incidents.

Another odd aspect to this is apparently, Rioli was informed 2 weeks ago and Sports Integrity Australia can no longer appeal because the appeal window has passed.

I'm pretty sure if Ben McDevitt was still running the show the AFL would be looking for places to hide right now.

Anyway, let's hope WADA steps in.

After today, any young fella on the PED's would be mad to not pour green or blue sports drinks into the sample cup.

So SIA, ASADA, ALDI or whoever didn't even adjudicate this. The AFL did. And it took them 2 years?

The reason being? It's affected him badly (oh dear) and he was clearly going to get caught. So you get a lighter punishment if you're a complete boofhead?

What kind of clown circus are they running down there?

Why do we even have an independent drug authority, if the AFL can self regulate? And do it in the most self-serving way possible.
