Moving like Dale Kickett out of defence here for Kentucky. Can we re-sign him as an international?

No disrespect to Max, but is punting in the NFL the easiest money making job in world sport?

Not when a 220lb linebaker blitzes on 4th down.

Not to mention avoiding crossing paths with the tripacker running flanking crunches through the K zone.

Naah, WTB, it has to be playing in a forward pocket for Adelaide.

Nah, I have to disagree.
i) Sure the opposition players are big but because of your protection they very rarely lay a solid tackle and even then their aim is to block the punt not injure the punter. No NFL punter in recent seasons has had career threatening impact injuries.
ii) your game time amounts to less than a handful of plays that can be measured in seconds not minutes
iii ) the rewards are huge - there aren’t any AFL players earning $2 million per season
Player Team Avg./Year
Sam Koch Ravens $2,475,000
Sam Martin Broncos $2,350,000

I’m not knocking Max - bloody good luck to him. But it’s hard to find a less onerous job in elite high paying sport.

That makes it even more impressive. If its an easy, lucrative career then you have to be better than a lot of people to get the job.

I agree to a certain extent, however, the punter has very little status in the US. Kids don’t grow up wanting to be a punter. Nobody kicks the ball in the backyard - it’s all about throwing. I lived in the country some time ago and people were stunned by how well I kicked the ball but I would be considered below average in Australia. A lot of AFL players would have a significant advantage in the NFL due to their years of kicking practice. As had been shown in the past, taking those skills and honing them at college level has had a reasonable success rate. I accept that there would still be strong competition but no more so than most elite sports and for those who get through it’s a relatively easy role.

The clip never showed how far Duffy's kick went, for all we know it was a 15 yard squirrel ball. The focus was on his 'selling candy' and getting his boot to ball - an everyday move in footy down here, but it was impressive up there in grid iron.

'Selling candy" has a cultural distance even larger than kicking in traffic however - ask any American what that means and they'll point you to some kid loitering on a street corner in a hoodie. You can always watch The Wire again too - great series.

I did see it described that he kicked it about 40 yards and it was marked (caught) by an oposition player. Max was pissed because there was no touchdown in the play.

'Selling the Dummy' has a cultural distance even larger than that. Ask any American what that means and they'll point to the Republican Party.

Polly, "selling candy" is a B Taylorism. The correct term is "dummied"
