Looks like we are taking pick 12 to the draft. Splitting 12 might happen but only if it was felt that we could lose one of our academy players. My choice:
Heath Chapman - West Perth - 193 cm defender. OK he's a defender but he seems to be a skilled player which is my first priority.

Sounds like we will draft a Key Forward with our first pick...192 cms just wont cut it.
We need a 200cm giant to grow with the rest of our young stars.
Given our first pick will be about 15/16 none of the obvious ones will still be there..
Maybe this bloke..check out these skills ( straight into the empty 23 jumper)

Seems like a reasonable option. Gives us something in the future and can also cover tabs and lobb if either goes down. Sounds like he also can do a bit of wing-work too.
Plus 2 Cox's in the team may be better than one...

Current rankings:
Heath Chapman (193) at 15, Nik Cox (199) at 21.
Zac Reid (202) at 11 might be available at 12.
Again Reid is shown as defender but is a skilled player. N. Cox is a swing (fwd/back) player like his name sake B. Cox
B. Cox can play as a forward if required.
Chapman is from WA which is a plus and has already played senior footy at WP where he is well regarded.

Given our disastrous trading in the last few years- McCarthy, hogan, colyer, matera it is nice to sit out . Our drafting of young kids has been far better than our trades.

Draft central has Cox at number 13 but with 4 academy Picks before him, will likely be gone by our pick.
#13 Nikolas Cox
Northern Knights/Vic Metro | Key Position Utility
15/01/2002 | 200cm | 87kg

A 200cm player who can run, kick on both sides, and play just about anywhere? It sounds too good to be true, but that is exactly what Cox brings to the table as his region’s most outstanding draft candidate. Cox cut his teeth as a tall wingman and key position swingman in 2019, juggling his time between school football, 10 NAB League outings, and a berth in the Under 18 Vic Metro squad as a bottom-ager. In 2020, the Northern Knights co-captain was set to develop as a centre-half back, with his athleticism and versatility in the role lending to the fact he has an enormous ceiling. He was also set to be a prime candidate to lead Vic Metro this year, lauded for his professionalism and the example he sets via training standards.

October Ranking: #11

Last Month: Cox remains a player with enormous upside despite not featuring on-field in 2020. He was a feature at the Vic Metro Draft Combine, notching a sub-three-second 20-metre sprint, while also completing the 2km time trial in 6:03. That rare athletic base for a player of his size sees him stick within our top 15, even as he shuffles down a couple of spots.

Any big blokes in the 200 range who can mark, kick a goal and can jump a barn and don’t mind playing ruck ?

Plenty, Noddy, but getting them off the tractor or out of the shearing shed during footy season could be a problem.

That footage of Cox is extraordinary, I presume it is from 2019. Seems like he is basically a right footer who prefers to kick on his left. Swapped seamlessly between left or right foot when kicking for goal, and landed two at distance from either foot. Bounces RH which is generally a giveaway to dominant side, but I think 60-70% of that vision he is kicking left foot, particularly early. In fact it was the 'awkward' first kick in that vision that made me look for sidedness. But quick and loves to run. Prodigious potential. I found him mesmerising to watch.

Fyfe should call him now, tell him to pack his bags, and when he gets out of quarantine will be just in time to hear his name called out.

I agree Blocker - He is mesmerising.
He actually reminded me of a 200 cm Stephen Hill with the foot skills of Akermanis..
Amazing Player

Let's hope for some change of luck after the draft period. If N Cox is available at pick 12 he is a must. Looks like an incredible talent for a big guy!
