So I've heard B Hardie and the Hackdorn both talking about the rising star and both have said they don't think Serong is likely to win , and on the other side Dennis Cometti thinks Caleb is a sure thing.

Surely the AFL can't steal this away from Serong .

Best First-Year Player
340 votes: Caleb Serong (Fremantle)
158 votes: Noah Anderson (Gold Coast)
47 votes: Will Day (Hawthorn)
30 votes: Lachie Ash (Greater Western Sydney)
22 votes: Mitch Georgiades (Port Adelaide)

Would be hard to find a better choice for “rising star” than Serong

Not one rising star on that list.

Sure be a nice accolade because he’s a gun but in 10 years time preferred he was revered as much as names above for longevity and capacity to impact games.

Still some pretty handy footballers on the winners list though. Few surprise or haven’t reached their full potential yet

The great thing about Serong is he's played on a class player most weeks, and he's held his own. He's not been given acres of space to run around and show how good he is, he's done it under immense pressure.

That's probably why the players gave Caleb the nod overwhelmingly ahead of Noah Anderson who it seems quite a few in the media are trying to mount a case for. The players unlike those media backing Anderson saw first hand the performances put up by Caleb and were acutely aware that he was backing up on experienced players like Dangerfield on a regular basis.

Interestingly, Noah Anderson also snubbed from the 22 under 22 team!!

It's likely the 22 under 22 selectors decided that since he has played with the aplomb of a 25yo, and beaten, man on man some accomplished 25-30yo's, they will treat him as a 25 plus yo player.

For about three hours early this morning, ABC News Radio was reporting Fremantle's Caleb Bell had been voted best first year player. The little admin bloke really is glory hunting.

I'd just like to thank my coach Justin Bell, for his guidance during the year, Nat Bell who has shown us all great leadership during a tough season, whether it be back home in Western Bellstralia or over in Brisbell; and thanks to all the Bellmantle membells for their support
