I'm very disappointed in anyone who didn't instantly see this as abhorrent.

It was straight up sexual abuse. There is so much playing out in that short bit of footage that it's staggering that someone could watch that and not instantly recognise it and understand the power displacement and the use of sexual abuse to establish power over someone. People will use that footage as a teaching tool.

To see his adulation turning to frustration, to anguish, to fear and eventually recoiling from everyone in the room was horrible to watch.

There was a pattern of behaviour which led to the young man wanting to be anywhere else than his place of work. And now he has to front up every day and smile and at a bloke who raped him if he wants to make a living at his trade.

I looked at it as sexual abuse firstt time I saw it, and hoped it wouldn't be passed off as teammates joshing about because it looked rather sick with cameras there and all.

I’m not sure sexual abuse or “raped” are the right terms here. Maybe sexual assault and certainly would be an assault. The statement from the AFL in my view strikes a good balance,

“The behaviour is inappropriate, unacceptable and juvenile. AFL players are professional athletes and set the example for the hundreds of thousands of kids playing football across the country. It is the responsibility of the clubs and the players themselves to ensure this inappropriate behaviour is not repeated”

The players are not molesters, they’re just idiots and bullies.

That's the 'Boys will be boys' response. It's not enough.

Nick Vlastuin is 26 years old. Footy clubs aren’t a typical workplace, but they are a workplace, and if after spending 8 years in the AFL system that message hasn’t made its way into his head then it’s a pretty significant failing of Nick or the club. I actually found Vlaustin’s own words of it being a ‘poor example’ the most infuriating.

As an aside, where does Hugh Rimmington’s question rate in terms of greatest footy press conference questions of all time? “Are all premiership players within Richmond expected to tolerate fingers going up their anuses or is it just the black player who’s expected to tolerate it?”

I’d love for him (or someone else) to ask a follow-up to Hardwick along the lines of “If a co-worker tried to insert his or her finger into your daughter’s anus, do you think describing the matter as a ‘poor example’ would put it to rest?”

yeah the AFL should probably issue fines/suspensions for bringing the game into disrepute or some such catch-all to back up their stance that the behaviour is unacceptable.

“Boys will be boys” would imply that it is acceptable because we can’t do anything than go along with the inherent nature of football player mentality. The fact they expressly indicate it is unacceptable suggests they’re not taking that stance, unless you think that’s code for the exact opposite?

Well, Richmonds superstar has got a poor track record as far as morals and ethics go, if they will tolerate that for success, they will tolerate anything.

Taylor Harris bravely responded on how this was wrong, which it is, well of course the facebook morons are in full flight. As one bloke said recently think of the intelligence of the average person, then realise that half the population are even more stupid. Scary stuff, but the posts on face book show this bloke was an optimist.

Good on you Taylor for having a say on whats right, this behaviour has no place in our game or our society.

You could see Chol was very uncomfortable with what was being done. The players concerned should be deeply ashamed.

I bet Ross The Boss was quick to send his CV into Richmond after that footage aired

Should have been a club suspension at least, but we all know that even though that would be the right thing to do, clubs don't do that......unless, have drink after a game and see how quickly they come down on you for breaking team rules, blah blah blah.

I'm trying to get the punchline if it was a joke and all I can come up with is, "this is really debasing, it's not happening to me, it's happening to you and there fore it's funny".
