Oh dear, gone are the halcyon days of busting curfew and pub crawling blinders with Brennan Cox.

He's a ripper, but from the way he's talked about he might have too much personality to be a modern AFL captain. I'm not sure having a camera up in his face every day is his go. I'd be inclined to (as much as possible) let him have a life outside of football and clown forwards on the weekends.

Nope, this new image thing will be good for his liver - long term I mean.

He is a jet. I have been critical of the clubs recruiting of mature age players but they nailed this one.

I'm trying to think of good/bad mature age players ...but have had a couple of red wines and can't think of too many.

Yep , mature age 'knowns' hasn't been too flash....but, mature age 'unknowns' seems ok.

So, concentrating on 'unkowns' :

GOOD : Barlow, Ryan., who else....

BAD : Faulks?.....who else....

Lee Spurs never showed up with a peroxided giraffe haircut either - just noting that, in case it's a factor for some.

Polly - reminds me of the time I saw Lee Spurr and Harley Bennell in the same weekend.

Harley was at Port Beach, with his girlfriend - both in fashionable clothes, sitting on the bonnet of his convertible Mercedes sports, sipping on lattes. Lee was in his tracky dacks pushing a trolley around Woolies holding his baby daughter in his arms.

Spoke volumes to me about their approaches.

The bloke spent 4 years in rehab, fronting up every week, probably doing the equivalent of 5 or 6 pre-seasons in all that work, he fronted up every week and put in at Peel and took every setback with good grace and dignity. He wanted to play football so badly that even after all the operations, rehab sessions, crushing re-occurrences and the criticisms like this, he fronted up at Melbourne and made a go of it. He's a great football story. He's a great story.

But for some reason instead of seeing tough kid from the country having a coffee at the beach with his partner, you saw something else.

I’d like to know how you knew they were lattes jezzargh, or was that just a fanciful addition to your narrative?

Can you drive a Mercedes cabriolet and not drink lattes?

Asking for a friend

PS best of luck, Harley and do you want a job as a medico at Freo when you retire? (He's getting better results than our current bunch)
