TOPIC: My bad

In defence of my talent spotting - I was the only one on DL that banged on all the time about this little kid playing for the Black Ducks colts team. I went on and on about him for months, finally we wasted pick 53 in the 2008 draft on him.

Yep, SP-S for me.

Wow one good game, I find this hard to swallow. I accept that Dixon smashed him but did you see the size difference. I said at the first bounce to my son gee Logue’s going to get flogged today.
I like SPS but I haven’t seen much that suggests he is going to be one of the premier midfielders in the comp. That’s a very big group of players.
Logue would easily sit in the top dozen tall defenders this year. This is a much smaller group hence why I value him higher. Also not bad for a bloke who will provide his best value as the third defender and possible pinch hitter in the middle.

O lord it's hard to be humble Biz!!
You constantly remind me of most of the scribes in the West Australian media. You only see what you want to see and you never, ever admit you are wrong. Against the Suns Griff conceded 2 goals to King in 2 minutes but kept him goalless for the rest of the game whilst against Brisbane he blanketed Charlie Cameron, keeping him goalless after being shifted onto him after half time. He's a rare talent matching and beating one man 10 cm taller than himself and then matching it with one of the best small forwards in the comp. But sorry I must be wrong coz you said so!

I really don't think st 193cm and 95kg you could classify Logue as a tall defender.
There are midfielders taller and heavier than that.

I'm not bashing Logue here, you guys are praising him like he's some sort of messiah after a good performance against a terrible side who couldn't find a lead at a dog park. He played well and picked the right times to leave his opponent but so did everyone in the backline except for probably Wilson who looked very sore. It should be expected and the norm in those conditions. A bit of levity to the game he played and his performance this season would be good.

In any case, I was mostly in awe of SPS and a big fan of the way he plays. I'd take him in our side every day of the week and I've made that point pretty comprehensively.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

He’s 21 yrs old, just come back from a lengthy injury period and played 28 games and is basically holding our backline together in the absence of our two best tall defenders.

Next thing people will be saying when the chips are down they can’t rely on him.....sheesh.

What I don't get is why anyone (that's you Slammo) would bring up SP-S knowing that Biz is around. You just don't mention Sam.

For the record, I really like SPS. I would take him in a flash, especially being a Claremont boy, but he shouldn't be compared to Griff. They are different players and I just want to give Griff the credit he deserves for his performances so far this season, nothing more, nothing less.

I realise he’s not big enough that makes his performance even more credible.

I get that people want to pump him up, especially when we're a side who are rebuilding but you do need to base things in reality to a degree. For example he is 22 (in his fourth year) so he's not exactly some fresh faced kid. The game he played Saturday is something I'd expect of a fourth year player who is fully physically developed and has grown through a few pre-seasons.

He's 193cm according to most websites which is the same height as Pav and only 1cm shorter than Hamling or Cox for that matter. A centimetre shouldn't make much of a difference unless you're up against a ruck type, certainly not if you're in a wrestle where he has plenty of strength to mix things up with key forwards. Luke Ryan was playing as a key defender the last couple of games while being 7cm shorter and only 2 years older than Griff. That's playing out of your weight division and something to rave about.

We all hope Griff continues to improve and perform at the same level as he did Sat. A big bustling third tall who can run off and help other defenders would be great for the side. He's shown he is capable of that and more.

The elephant in the room here is has Griff gotten better because the Rowing coach is no longer with us distracting him??
