While this article focuses on Dusty, the graphs are of interest as they highlight Fyfe's value including his "Defensive Half Pressure Acts" which blows Malthouse out of the water.

Malthouse thinks he’s the Australian equivalent of Confucius. Listening to him on the ABC Saturday sports program puts a picture in my mind of him sitting in a nursing home chair with a rug across his knees after a round of bean bag in the basket.

I'd like to see the stats on the defensive aspect of matches played by the Carlton football club from say 2013-2015.

I thought the measure of a great footballer was not to be great at everything, but something specific, or a number or things, and do them consistently.

Malthouse is a wanker.

This rubbish about Nat being a poor kick at goal has got to stop.

Some stats (according to Footwire) that may upset some "commentators".

i From 2014 up to rd4 2020 Nat Fyfe has kicked 95 goals and 64 behinds. IMO a respectable return for a player that gets scragged relentlessly and targeted 100% of time on ground.
ii In the same time period, interstate is actually where Nat Fyfe performed best kicking 51 goals 28 behinds.
iii Nat kicked 3.1 in the 2014 finals (not included in above figures)

I don't know how these figures relate to the AFL averages or selected other players and I really don't care, even though the interstate stat is surprising. All I know is that I am happy if our Captain is having a shot at goal because he's pretty good at it.

If Malthouse was 35 years younger he would be Kane Cornes.

I will say I watched the game Saturday, and for the first time in my life, I thought Fyfe didn't really look fit. In fact, early in the third quarter, I remarked to my colleague "Fyfe looks "lumpy". He doesn't look right." Ten minutes later he was off. I know we hear he is the consumate professional, and prepares like no other- but maybe this year was different.

Really happy to stand corrected, and this is a bit off the OP's topic, but thought I would chuck it in there.

I think Fyfe actually admitted he was a little short of peak fitness when he said earlier this week, after scans showed a hamstring strain, not a tear, that the injury was a consequence of the shortened pre-season leading into the round 2 restart.

Malthouse is a tosser. Comparisons to Cornes are spot on, because no one listens to him either.

Blocker, you should know by now, that if there is one rule on Dockerland, it's that you never apologise for going off topic.

Yeah, Malthouse and Cornes. Sounds like a comedy duo with both playing the idiot and forgetting the need for a straight man.

I know it's every person's right to make a goose of themselves in public but those two abuse the privilege.

You know if he played for a Victorian side he'd be a superstar, just like we've heard it said about Pav and Mundy.

Just did a comparison between Dusty and Fyfe stats wise. Dusty must be a spud, I look forward to Mick’s comments in the near future pertaining to Dusty not being a champ.
I also tire of the ongoing criticism of Fyfe’s goal kicking, his ratio is almost identical to Dusty at 71%.
They talk about confirmation bias. I get sick of this in AFL circles, something gets noted by a particular commentator or in a particular game and, forever all that gets noted is confirmation for this fact. Fyfe missed easy shots in GF and has been branded. Matt Deboer apparently was a poor disposer.
Ive watched Fyfe over the last two years with particular interest to this attitude and I have to say it’s an urban myth.
