Get rid of the 50m arcs?

The need for 6:6:6 is now passe and the arcs are nothing but stat and commentary making artefacts.

I also reckon the tackle/ holding the ball ratio is skewed by stats keepers and what they call a tackle these days.

If you reckon just kicking it longer is the answer to attractive footy, prepare for disappointment as the game turns into even more of a kick to pack, no mark, scramble on the floor, ball up. It'll be like kick-to-kick in the schoolyard but with umpires.

It's not that bad, just stop f-ing with it. Get rid of runners. Get rid of all in-quarter coaching. Let the players play and you'll get the Charlie Camerons etc. running amock and making footy attractive and about taking speccies and kicking goals again.

The coaches will force players to play to the rules, if the rules are going to be enforced. If the coaches think they can force the umpires and AFL to change to what they want, a la the flood, the Roos/Lyon game plan etc, they will instruct their players to play to that style. It's all in the hands of the umpires, to open the game up by enforcing the rules. Don't blame the players or the coaches, blame the administrators and the umpires board.

Coaches are paid to win and sacked when they lose. It’s not their job to make a spectacle and if they play attractive losing football they’re not around for long.

What about getting rid of ugly and time consuming boundary throw in by playing with the last touch oob rule like in the womens game and i think sanfl
Also any kick backwards is banned or becomes play on and maybe the minimum length of kick for a mark to be paid becomes 25m

Mushroom, agree with all that, except it really is that bad. Everything you said will help but until such time as players can't run themselves to the point of no return and then come off to recover the game will stay the same. That's what has changed; the use of interchange. They shouldn't be physically capable of getting to every contest and congesting everything.

The big part of the problem is the way many of the rules are enforced. Mostly badly - by semi professionals, some of whom are biased, cheating scumbags. I think that's at the root of what Clarkson said.

Coaches coach to the way the rules are applied. That's why you get players holding the ball in tackles. 8/10 it'll create a stoppage and ball up. If it were the other way around, coaches wouldn't drill players to keep it in and hold up play.

The other waste of time rule is the ruck nomination. Just throw it in the air and get moving - don't give teams 2 minutes to form a mob while you clarify who is and isn't able to legally wrestle for it.
