The trade and draft period is done and dusted for us with our list locked in for next year.

Our draft hand has been heavily shaped by 2019 as we traded a lot of our future picks out to get Young, Serong and Henry. The AFL site has us as holding our 2020 first round pick (which will be pushed back due to the Henry bid carryover points) and Melbourne's second round pick (so let's all hope they have another shocker of a year).

We've given away our 2020 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th round picks to be in the top 10 this year (while also losing Hill and Langdon) so we've paid a fair price to get some elite talent into the side. It will be interesting to see how we go about getting back into next year's draft with some potential NGA academy kids needing bids matched again. Our 2021 picks could be in the firing line which is a recurring theme for us at the trade table. I don't think we've ever left a trade period with a surplus of future picks.

There was still something like 200pts carry over that it was reported may be exempt from carry over but it doesn't seem to be the case. It will probably drop our pick a couple of spots depending on where we finish. The lower our pick, the more positions it will cost us in the draft.

Are you allowed to continuously mortgage every subsequent year's draft position? If so then that's crazy but it means you can perpetually trade away the following year's draft picks for current year's draft picks. The only drawback is the continued premium you pay to do that.

After 2020 brownlow medalist and All-Australian Captain David Mundy signs a two-year contract extension, Freo are not even going to need to participate in the 2020 draft.

Fingers crossed Jackson doesn't provide too good a target forward for the Demons and carry them up the ladder!

Those 2 picks may get pushed later with a lot of academy and father son bids likely in 2020. I've come across the below players eligible for 2020 who are consistently spoken about as top 40 picks and are already tied to a club:

17 of the 48 players who were involved in the all stars game this year before the GF were already tied to clubs like the above players so picks will bounce around the place as bids are made. Hopefully Western and Walker don't require too many points and other clubs academy players soak up all their picks.

I hope Polly has seen some vision of Ugle-Hagan, I've watched a bunch of his games this year and he looks like an absolute jet. I can't wait to see what he can produce with another year of development before being drafted.

Hypen - the other catch is that in order to trade future picks, you need to have another club willing to do a deal. It’s not like you can go to Draft Pick Converters and get a payday loan of draft value index points. At least, not yet...
