How much money to we spend on recruiters? I’ve just checked out a couple of newspaper predictions for the top 20 selections. We could save a truck load of dollars by just waiting until draft day and picking from the papers. They seem to have nailed 90% of the players who have been taken.

Yes Biz, the kid I'm really feeling for at the moment is Deven Robertson. Only one of 16 invited not to get picked up and looked quite dejected and confused when shown on camera talking to his mum. On the Henry bid though, we had to do it and the Vic kids, well I would have preferred local boys. I'm sure Sharp or Robertson would have been good as well but I do like the look of Serong.

There was a bit of talk about Robertson not getting taken early, and that has come to pass. I am happy we have not wasted a pick on him, he is the type of player Lyon would sign in a heartbeat, but not the type that will win you AFL games. The players we have taken so far are attacking, have good skills and have room to improve further, Robertson strikes me as a Daniel Rich type.

Freo by every measure had a good draft tonight. Only the future will determine how good.

The Robertson v Young debate is an interesting one, put into perspective by the scribes on Foxfooty after the event where it was explained that two factors, a lack of pace and a doubtful kicking efficiency was what counted against Robertson and that quite a few clubs were put off by these factors. They then went on to show highlights of Young showing a very high level of kicking efficiency and highlighted also his pace around the ground. Interestingly, the first of these highlights commenced with a turnover, not under pressure, by Robertson where he picked out Young hitting him on the chest followed by a pinpoint pass by Young resulting in a goal. I think Robertson will succeed because he seems a very determined and driven individual who will see this as further incentive to improve his overall game.
I can see that barring injury Young and particularly Sarong will be pressing for inclusion in our best 22 next season and some who got games last season due to a lack of alternatives will struggle to hold their place on our list.

Robertson might yet do a Simon Black.

Passed over by both Freo and WC at multiple picks.

Goes to Bris at pick 31 and spends better part of next 10 years rubbing it in the WA teams’ faces every game he played against them.

Built on winning the footy and getting it out to blokes around him.

yeah he might do that, and he might not.

There have been knocks on his kicking and on that basis there would have been howls if Freo had picked him.

I reckon Bell has made off like a bandit with who he has landed with his picks. Serong & Young were touted as being 3&4 all year and Henry looks pure silk to me (a blend of S.Hill & Mikey). All should play first round. Also reckon we will end up with some good rookies from WA this year.

But for the life of me I can figure out what its cost for these three players. Is it effectively Pick 7, B Hill, Langdon, 2019 round 2,3 & 4 plus 2020 2 round?

Yes, who knows but there's also been knocks on Fyfe's kicking and he's a dual Brownlow Medallist.

True corps but he hasn't got the speed or aerial ability of Fyfe either. So he's looking a little bit one dimensional. Don't get me wrong, every team needs an 'extractor', but only with elite disposal do they become match winners. Hope he does well though, and proves us all wrong, as long as hes not paying for WC.
