I can't understand how anyone can understand the whole trading system when it involves points plus future picks plus deficits plus second-guessing weird-arse potential bids, all for no guarantees and probably more than just a few borderline dodgy gentlemen's agreements.

I'm certain it's a system designed by, and for, dudes with a penchant for casino tables who truly believe they are consistently going to beat the house.

What goes around comes around. It's only a matter of time before Bell & Co get burnt on a live trading gentlemen's agreement on draft night. Stay tuned.

Langdon was gone.

Alternative theory ...

He could have walked to PSD for zip and Melb get him there for nothing.

Still agree ... unless hit the bullseye with 7 and 8 ... this deal looks weird.

Mushroom, and to add all for the right to select players who have a better than even chance of not making it. Half the top ten picks don't make it.

Biz - How good are Western and the Walker twins really going to be?
We dont know..
Many young guns at 15 destined to be Top 10 picks drop off to be also rans.
I would much rather Rivers and Taylor now than 16 yo potential any day of the week.
Western and Walker boys may drop off to be later picks in which we would still have plenty of ammo to secure them anyway.

I think the Henry kid may well be like Bobby Hill. It's WA media saying he's top ten.

Raglan Matt
All this draft & points stuff is just the off-season version of fantasy football. Draft Henry at 8, and you don't have to worry about matching bids or any of that BS. I also think that the picks around the 40's & 50's will be just as good as the 20's & 30's picks, out of this years draft.

Problem is Raglan, we won’t have any picks in the 40s, 50s or 60s they’ll all get used in matching a bid for Henry. Plus, as Biz pointed out we’ll be in deficit for next year. This was a stupid trade.

We will still keep pick 74 and above and any more picks we require later in the draft to fill our list..
Picks 74 + have no point value but you still retain them.
We could have for instance pick 81,82 and 83 in rounds 8,9 and 10 to secure say Sokol, Pasini or Garcia etc to make up our list numbers

This move from 10th to 8th and giving away 22 for pick 49 just seems like madness, if we were worried about a bid on Henry coming at 8 or 9 the simple response would've been to use pick 10 to match the bid and then use pick 22 for another WA gun kid.

I feel like we've screwed this up and it could cost us big time next year. the media has rattled Belly into making his first mistake.
