Impressive test results, and ready to play, worth a late pick or rookie pick BUT if we follow our history we will opt for a skinny kid from Vic or in particular SA
Can anybody tell me who is our talent scout in SA as he seems to a lot of influence (or indeed who is our talent scout here in WA as at Peel games i see a lot of interstate guys making heaps of notes)
Lets hope Jlo or Belly can rectify
Much of the interest in Sokol is due to the drastic improvement in his goalkicking accuracy in the second half of last season, which went from 20.21 at one point to 40.12 for the rest of the year.
It’s no coincidence that the change came when Subiaco got Austin Robertson to work with him. Austin’s tried a couple of times to interest Freo in his services, with no success. Now, sure, he’s in his seventies and not exactly the model of a modern AFL specialist coach, but there are a few of our blokes ( from the skipper down) who could use some of what Ocker’s got to offer.
What Sokol has achieved is impressive however he may now have attracted the attention of interstate scouts and Ithink with our late picks we may be better served targeting the Peel colts sharpshooter Ben Middleton, a bit younger and less experienced at 18yo but 191cm and 88kg a solid lad who kicked 22 goals in 8 colts games including 5 in the Grand final and 4 goals in 2 reserves games. My main preference for him is that we already have quite a few established forwards so a year or 2 developing him further in the WAFL will see him primed to progress to AFL ranks as a replacement for any of these guys that don't work out in the next 2 years.
OK, he impressed me with his interview on 7's Today Tonight show this evening AND he is a big Freo fan. He's won me over and if we've got one of those meaningless late picks left after the young guns are gone I'd be pleased to see Ben taken and get his wish to play in purple.
