An elimination Prelim final and the AFL's invincible score review ARC stuffs up gifting a goal to Collingwood and nearly costing GWS a spot in the Grand Final. The AFL is a joke and will be interesting to see how they explain this stuff up.

Will the umpires have to explain the clear push in the back to Grundy at a throw which Finlayson then took and kicked a goal or the mark to Taranto that clearly hit the ground which he then kicked down ground for another goal?

A lot was missed both ways and some of the early frees against Mumford were laughable and soft to put it mildly. The push you mentioned was there but was highly exagerrated by Grundy and he probably suffered because he was throwing himself forward in the contest continually all day.

Mayne's goal should've been given, it was the popular opinion at the time.

The worst part about the score review is that the umpire very enthusiastically rushed to restart the game. There was an earlier one as well where the umpire tried to do the same but was held up by Matt De Boer who seemed to demand that he waited for the review which then went against Collingwood. This was the Pendlebury snap out of the pack.

In typical AFL style they have come out and declared that there was insufficient evidence to overturn the goal scored, meanwhile Lachie Keefe of GWS has had to have emergency surgery on a finger so badly bent that it was nearly removed and now in doubt for next week.

The super slow mo was too slow before the center bounce took place. Therefore, no decision... play on.

Well the same thing nearly happened with the Pendlebury shot but Matt de Boer actually stopped the the umpire from bouncing the ball to restart play. You could clearly hear Matty on the effects mike telling the umpire to wait for the review. So is this an umpiring error because they were trying to restart the game too quickly for a review to take place. Funnily enough I think it was the same umpire restarting play on both occasions.

Jeez Gumnut, you've really gone town on this. Are you actually one of the 132 GWS members?

If you are waiting for a perfect goal review system you will be wasting your time. What we have isn’t perfect (and never will be) but it’s a damn sight better than the ol’ days when umps made mistakes and then they were replayed over and over without any chance of the original decision being overturn. Sure mistakes still occur (and today’s was a bad one), but we are getting better decisions overall than anytime in the past.

Gees, Gumnut, you really hate Chris Mayne, don't you. Since when has M De Boer been appointed to the umpire panel?
I think you will find that most neutral footy supporters in Australia will be of the opinion that Collingwood were shafted.

Jeez Matt, put the boots in. I'm a huge Mayney fan, always have been. We should never have let him go but I never once mentioned him in my posts. His goal review was actually never properly shown, like a side on view but they did get it right in the end and I'm only calling it like I saw it with Matty de Boer as he did seem to hold up the umpire from bouncing the ball while Pendlebury's goal was reviewed.
I'm totally neutral in this game but Collingwood got more than their share of free kicks, 24 to 17 and I thought there were quite a few kicks missed both ways. Some of the Mumford free kicks were quite soft but they didn't affect the result either way and Grundy was throwing himself forward in a lot of contests which may have gone against him on some occasions. Overall though I thought the AFL would have preferred a Collingwood/Richmond GF and their defence of the ARC stuffup typically pathetic saying not enough evidence when jusy about everybody in Australia except those in ARC saw Keefe's finger go back.

The problem with the ARC and umpiring in general is the environment of panic around it all.

What’s the rush?? By and large, punters want a properly checked and correct decision, and I think we’re prepared to wait a bit. Same applies to general play decisions - sometimes the umps seem to be in such a frenzy to make their decision they lose their way completely.

Umpires and refs in our closest sports, rugby and gridiron, take all the time they need to get their call right. We should too.
