TOPIC: Hugh Dixon...

Showed a bit I thought. Definitely lacked a tank, but certainly showed enought to question why - when all the other forwards were injured - why we didn't have a bit of a look a bit earlier. ??

Something to work with, I thought...

I thought it was really funny that he thought getting a game in the round 23 No Motivation Cup was a good thing. You gotta like his shameful enthusiasm.

All you quiz night enthusiasts out there, remember this one: Who was the only player to ever debut under David Hale?

He'll be better for the run, and we'll be better for double entendres once he gets to line up alongside Cox.

I agree there is a spark of skill (particularly that goal) in the few things Dixon did. I also thought Jones was OK but needs to get a higher level of fitness as does Dixon.

Yeah... but what a goal. Just a sniff and it was thru the big sticks.

Time to move McCarthy out to the wing and Huge a FF.

Surely that was his, "Here mate, have your one game in the bigs" game?

Dixon looks like he knows footy, a few games under his belt this year might have been a big help in his development.

Nothing against him but I didn’t really think he showed a great deal.
That’s the thing with young guys, early on can do a couple of things and people don’t have high expectations. It’s in their second, third and fourth years that expectations lift. Also when you have three or four kids as opposed to a dozen their weaknesses can be covered a lot more.

Hugh was let down by our typical delivery into the forward 50. I noticed him make a few good leads but was ignored by kicks either sideways or backwards which then resulted in turnovers. This has been a problem all year and has cost us games and a myriad of scoring opportunities..

He can definitely kick the footy just needs to stay busy. I liked what I saw.
Good to see Sam Sturt play well too, wrong thread I know.
There is a few that might take a while but have pretty good upside.
We nail this draft and we are in good shape for the future.

At least Hugh won't get the Taberner Development Program, he will get a crack at it now.

You're Taberner program and the reality of how many games he played in a row when not deserving of it are probably quite different.

I liked a few things that Hugh did but it was not a game for a freo forward with pretty much the same game plan etc in place. His goal had quality written all over it so hopefully he continues to develop. I can't see him getting much of a go ahead of Hogan, Lobb, Tabs, Cox etc next year though.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.
