Good wide-ranging interview by the President today.
He talked about sponsors and supporters giving positive feedback about the sackings, which were months in the making. The slide in memberships was mentioned.
The board was finally able to act unanimously and clear the way for a change in culture, and a charismatic new coach will be a large part of that.

It got me reflecting again how divisive Rosich & Ross were, painting a glowing picture of achievement oblivious to growing discontent among stakeholders. No sponsors want ongoing association with negative media commentary and sustained failure.
There is a significant cost to the sackings, but in the end people copped it to get these guys out.
And this is why the 'thanks Ross' thread feels strangely obsequious to me. Each to their own I guess and for sure do whatever it takes to move on, but the fanbase has passed them by just as the game passed Ross by.

Now that is a good message from the Prez.

It has real substance and addresses things that are important to the people who give money to club. It acknowledges things that people have been saying for a long time.

It gives me much more hope hearing that

When he says finally able to act unanimously I assume that means some board members took a lot of convincing.

Two spots up for election in October.

Why would they need to act unanimously? A majority surely gets the job done.

Peter Mann must be getting close to 300 games on the Bored, or has he passed that?

They're letting him help pick the coach, push his profile up a bit before the election time.

Another letter from the Pres..

".. The Fremantle Football Club has finalised the composition of the selection panel to appoint the club’s new senior coach.
The panel will be chaired by board member and former club captain Peter Mann.
Mann, who is also chair of the club’s football sub-committee, will be joined on the panel by president Dale Alcock, board member Sue Murphy, general manager of football Peter Bell and former player and Life Member Luke McPharlin.
Alcock said that the selection process will be led by independent facilitator, Damien Eves. .. "

Looks like they are trying to put the "F" back into Fremantle.

In an ideal world you'd appoint a CEO who'd develop and oversee a process that appoints a senior coach. never really been one for a coherent strategy though have we?

Drubbing, never would a decision this big be allowed to pass by a majority of a board. In fact, very few decisions should be. It means the board is not united and cohesive. As has probably happened in this case, the board should continue to discuss until all members either support it or can accept it.
It’s the role of the Chair to ensure that happens.

When they said they were going to appoint an external person for a unique viewpoint I was thinking someone not connected to the club like Rob Wiley or maybe Shane Woewodin, not an ex Fremantle player and someone who worked for Dale Alcock.

Maybe, if one of the front runners is an ex-player, have less of his former team mates on the selection panel rather than more.

I hope you get the right people on board soon and before we lose too many more to the Vics. Trade time and draft time are not far away and as they used to say .... the cobblers need to cobble.
