My choice: JLo with Jarrod Schofield as his senior assistant.
Peter Bell as CEO and Peter Sumich as football manager.

Pfft. Rosich was a graphic designer with an expensive suit.

He was an accountant who'd spent several years working in football administration before being promoted to CEO. He might not have done things the way people would like but everyone got paid and the lights stayed on. He wasn't a bloke having a crack because someone thought he was pretty switched on.

I can’t see a Longmuir working alongside a Schofield - they both want the top job. I suspect the senior assistant will be someone who has done the top job in the past (Worsfold) or someone who doesn’t covet the top job.

the idea of a mentor for a rookie coach is not a bad idea but there'd be no point unless the mentor was someone the rookie coach looked up to.

tell JLo to pick his own mentor

There are many companies who's CEO's are not accountants. In fact many are lawyers like Bell. I worked for a considerable amount of time in my working life for such companies. The CEO often has work experience connected directly to the activities of the company e.g. mining engineers (without accounting qualifications) become CEOs of mining companies.

Bell is not a lawyer. He has a law degree. His work experience is as a football player, as a radio talk show host and a less than a year as a football manager, at a club so bad they sacked the coach and the CEO.

It's a $50 million dollar organisation. He's not qualified. He may well be one day but he is not qualified today.

Good point dd. I've never given much thought about the attributes a CEO needs. What are the key abilities and attitudes?
