So it seems everyone, except Roly and selectors, has noted that Banfield is busting a gut each week and playing very well as a midfielder. So we should bring him back in as forward?
He's already been thrown in there and had even less influence than McCarthy. He's a big bodied midfielder who's not being given a chance to play where he is best suited.

Let me start by saying: I think Banfield should be playing in the bigs. He’s good enough and he’s earned it.

Having said that, I reckon the logic is Mundy, fyfe and Walters need midfield minutes for us to win right now. Conca is the defensive muscle, and is there to play defensive mid. Blakely, Brayshaw and Cera get midfield minutes to work them into the mix and develop, but they play one at each end mostly to keep them on the Park. Add Hill and Langdon on the wings and the midfield is full.
So where does BB fit? Replace Conca maybe, but he’s been solid IMHO. Does he replace Mundy or Fyfe and use them as forwards mostly? Would solve our forward problem maybe but leaves us thin for experience in the guts.
If Bailey wants in then I reckon he needs a second position, like Brayshaw or Cera, and I reckon this is the stuckong point. He’s not suited to another role - he is midfield muscle. If it’s between him and switta up forward, I want switta.

Personally, I reckon push Mundy/Fyfe forward and lose one of the rucks. But I think Roly wants the height.

Personally, I would push Fyfe forward for Matera, Banfield to the middle. I reckon we need to be trendsetters for a change, and get some big bodied small forwards. ( and anyway, Switta, Walters and B Hill have got the small forward thing covered.)

Where does Darcy Tucker fit in the mix? he kicks the odd goal but turns the ball over too often, I think Banfield could play the same role and should be given the opportunity to demonstrate if he has more potential.

Sox, this is where people are getting annoyed at Lyon. The mumbo jumbo double speak. He says we are a developing team but doesn't give the kids midfield time, drops guys like Crowden and Logue when they screw up. Development means sticking with kids when they screw up. Pick and stick and give them some key roles. It's been Fyfe, Mundy and Walters in there 75 per cent of the time.

Corp I like Banfield and earlier in the year I called for Conca to be dropped and replaced with Banfield in the middle. Conca has had a much better 2nd half of the year but I still wonder why you recruit a player like that to hold a player like Banfield back? The problem we have in our midfield is lack of quality ball users and decision makers. Banfield is probably another one of these. We have no dramas getting our hands on it but constantly waste the footy with poor use and decisions. Players that are spending large chunks of game time in the midfield like Langdon, Fyfe, Blakely, Brayshaw, Conca aren’t what you call great users of the footy.

Bozza, why is it they are not great users of the footy? They were recruited for that very skill. I reckon it is because of 2 reasons, 1 they have no options ahead of them demanding the footy (everyone is running away from them trying to get forward of the ball) and 2 they don't work on those skills now like they did under other coaching regimes (That applies to players like Wilson as well, recruited to be they man who could hit a target over 60 meters (which he did regularly at GWS, but now a shell of that talent)

Yeah I’d like to think that RM but I think these guys are just average kicks to be honest. Mundy and Walters spend as much time through the middle as those players and are elite users. Always have been.

Tucker is good Polly. He's played close to 70 games.

Why is everyone so keen on replacing Matera? He has kicked 27 goals so far this season and with 5 games left will probably end up with around 35 goals
Cam Mac has missed a number of games and managed 16 goals. If he was kept in the side he would have had more goals. He kicked the same amount of goals as he did at GWS in his first season with us I think. Play him and stop stuffing him around.
Banfield should definately go into the middle, along with Blakely.

Bewley is the one that doesn't get mentioned. He is already preferred to Banfield.

There are what you could call prime movers - Fyfe Mundy Walters Banfield Blakely and Hoges (maybe one day Cerra) and there are the enablers - people like Tucker who are the close-in opportunists. And there are the centre square players and others who come closer at stoppages around the ground - like Langdon and Bewley mentioned above. I think he and Banfield are like for like - as played though both could be prime movers in time. Some can be included in other groups too like B Hill and Langdon - outside runners.

Like Lyon, Larkin, you make the game more complicated than it is, to justify your position.
