TOPIC: The Good and the not so good vs Sydony

Walter the baker The Good and the not so good vs Sydony 4 years 8 months ago #1

Walter the baker
Good
We won - phew
Lobb best game
Lobb’s chase in the last few seconds while dragging his arm along like a winged seagull
Brayshaw and Logue stepping up
Hamling - what a fun
Commentators only referenced “lowering the eyes” once

The not so good
Lobb’s arm
Darcy’s (lack of) speed
Wilson seems out of touch
Sydney’s ability to run it out of their backline when we went too tall
The footy gods seemed to play some nasty tricks with the bounce of the ball

Edit: special mention to Logue for his toe tap and follow up with have a half a dozen second effort tackles.

Sorry, WTB, but I think opposition's ability to run the ball out of defence is due to 2 things, 1 a lack of manning up by Freo players, who seem to be instructed to guard space about 5 - 10 meters from their nearest opponent, or 2 the fact that all the Freo players are sprinting flat out into our forward line behind the footy, when it is turned over. I have yet to work out which is the bigger problem.

Lobb is my best recruit ever that is solid performer every game. (2nd is Modra)
Umpires were crap, playing tackles ( holding )when no prior, calling the ball back when we won the ball in the center bounce, as I have said before we can lose game without help.
Watching that game was fingernails on a chalkboard...my fingernails went a few games ago.
A lot of seats vacant which sends a message for the club mid winters late start night Saturday night when people coming from down South after they made the effort a few weeks ago and school holidays.
It's a hard Stadium for young family's.

A win always feels better than a loss.
Lobb was titanic and should be top 3 in Doig Medal.

Umpires did their best to give Sydney the game:
Multiple 50m penalties
Walters gets poleaxed - no free
Cerra gets strangled - no free
Deliberate OOB frees for Sydney but none for Freo.
They throw the ball up straight and recall it - WTF?

Is there any wonder people hate them?

They missed a couple of high ones but clearly Ethan Hughes was holding the ball in the last minute of the game.

Mac, you could get a job at Cockburn Central, with that spin.

Shane Warne could not have sent down a better Wrong-un.

Me, I would put down the lack of attendance to the 2 most boring coaching styles in footy history playing each other. But then, that's just my opinion.

For us that attended the game we appreciated the conditions were not ideal
Two teams went hard and did their best
We won so why are most of the posts negative
Seriosly wonder if you wingers are
dockers supporters or just knockers from the wet toast
Same wafflers every day post this negativity
Yes we've had our ups and downs ,more downs I agree over 25 years but
When we win just give the boys some credit

Down on down
Good
The effort.
Joel Hamling.
Griffin Logue.
The look of relief by the players at the final siren.
Free Maccas on Monday.

The not so good
The usual..... lack of skills, no run through the middle of the ground and boring, boring football, 7 goals to win a game is woeful in what were pretty good conditions.
Ross when responding to external criticism in this post match interview "I don't know what all the hoopla is about to be honest'.

Wowee (to quote BT)

You must be one of those 'if you criticise the club you must be a west coast supporter' types.

We won tonight....by 1 point against a side performing poorly who were away from home. The luck went our way. It was not won by planning, preparation or coaching.

True supporters have a right to be concerned about our regular poor performances and failure to either develop or improve. Add to that a constant failure to even attempt to address our deficiencies.

I don't know if you noticed but a win doesn't mean we are performing at AFL level because we are not.

With our run home home we could easily finish in the bottom four for the fourth season in a row and if you wish to celebrate that then be my guest. Some of us, however want to see the club actually enjoy some success and tonight was not success.

One final comment, you would do better to work on your spelling, punctuation and grammar because that is below AFL standard as well.

If you truly want to support the boys, you'll want to see the end of those holding the team back....but seemingly you don't.

If they are using a surfactant I think they are using the wrong one. Any time it is damp the games look like that and its comical at times. It was an interesting game and it would have been sack the coach all week if we lost that one – but we didn't so stfu. I'm kinda glad we did it without Fyfe cos it gave the younger crew the chances in the middle and generally they were good. Great effort all game. Brayshaw is looking the goods. And a 47 year old Mundy can still play footy. Happy Birthday David.
