.......is something one does not associate with a Fremantle Dockers win.
I think Roly likes his players to be predictable to eachother and this allows him to control many aspects of the game.

But the downside is that we (Freo) never surprise the opposition with a new tactic or a player lining up in a new position. I remember a game at Etihad last year against the Bombers when Jonno was a late in and they started him up front by necessity. He jagged a couple of Q1 goals. Same thing happened with Nyhus against the Kangas.

If Roly could just become less of a control freak, he could be pro-active and put some headaches into the hawk's box.
It might also be fun to watch.

It's not just Ross Lyon that does it. It's a whole coaching philosophy. If you've got a plan and you believe in that plan, you would not deviate from that plan.

It's execution minimisation. You're not responsible for your actions if a group of people agreed beforehand how the game would be played. If it all goes wrong, it wasn't because you made an error or showed poor judgement, it was because you had a flaw in the plan, which you can tweak during the week, then try again.

It's what's wrong with the Australian cricket team. They just keep bowling to the plan the old men drew up while trying to look busy in their office playing with spreadsheets. Then a new bloke comes in who doesn't know the plan, and gets wickets because he tries things and experiments and figures it out.

Then he gets dropped because he didn't follow the team plan.

Watched last weeks gamw again early this morning. We really dis not try to stop The scum like the pies did last night. We just kept on attacking madly and they were expecting it every time. Going long is ok in wet weather footy but you also need to man up. We were still playing the guard spacegame which is why they looked so clean. Collingwood bombed thw ball in all night last night but pressured their opponants one on one in the second half. This took away the time and space for the scums marking game. They are shite at ground ball gets we needed to play that style and use our runners to carry the ball.

Bpurple, we bomb into a forward line with our forwards running in with the ball, there is no legal way for them to effectively spoil opponents. We have to have 1 on 1 in our forward line. Before the ball is kicked in there. All game. That is not coaching masterstroke stuff, that is footy basics. We were always told, if it ain't working, go back to basics.
