I would think Jesse consented to the public statement. Like Dusty did the other day, bringing it to public attention should help to destigmatize mental health.
So, this may be a good starting point for Jess.

The AFL or any other high profile sport is no place to employ people with known mental health issues. Help them if they become known after employment but don’t employ them if you know there’s a problem.

Mental health issues affect many more people than we know. Being affected should not exclude anyone from employment. Mental health needs to be understood but pigeonholing all as unfit for work is an archaic way of dealing with it.

It’s dumb to employ someone with known mental health issues in an environment where they can get ripped apart by the media.

Okay, has this anxiety issue just popped up since he came back home? Did Melbourne know about it and were helping him get treatment? Have we been getting the same for him since he joined us?
Was their due diligence then in recruiting him?
Am I becoming a cynical old bastard who finds it hard to swallow a lot of the stuff that comes from Freo central because i don't particularly trust a lot of the people in charge there?

How will he get ripped apart? What is there to rip apart? Mental illness is a debilitating condition at its worst. Will the media make fun? Doubt him? Mock his condition? Nah...

And there’s also a few videos going around of him now. Players need to be smarter in public and choose who they surround themselves with. Seems like people are trying to always expose them

or maybe people need to be less uptight and remember that, to my knowledge, the thing he has done wrong is not show up in a fit state for work on Sunday.

Agree . But there’s still a way you need to behave when you know you’re in the spotlight. It’s only going to come back to hurt you not anyone else

Do you know what the highlight of following this club is for me now.

Trade period

I have hope for a few weeks, then suffer for 50 weeks then wait for the October trade period

That's it

Noddy, those are discipline issues though. He broke team rules, he should cop that. The anxiety is a mitigating factor but it's not an excuse. People do similar things all the time.

There is a wider point being made by some that Fremantle shouldn't have recruited Hogan because he has a mental health condition. That's where it becomes archaic. The idea that he should be punished any further than his actions is an awful prejudice that mental health groups have been working very hard for a long time to change.

I’m not advocating that ‘he should be punished any further than his actions is an awful prejudice that mental health groups have been working very hard for a long time to change.’

I'm suggesting if you know an AFL player has mental health issues, that your due diligence should as with other medical conditions be taken into account, in my view, that is not unreasonable.

I’m fully behind us supporting Hogan to deal with any issues he may have.
