TOPIC: List Deficiencies

Scones, Morgan or don't talk to me.

Defence: we need a half back flanker with speed and elite kicking. Preferably 2 but lets start with 1
We need another tall with a bit of creativity and accurate kicking to replace 1st Johnno

Forward: Depending on whether Tabs gets delisted, we will need a marking tall but if he gets judged on whether he is another Pav or not then we will just be easting our time. We won't see another Pav for a while. They're rare beasts.

We also need a forward structure that allows players to lead for the ball when its coming in. I know Roly said we were leading in all the right places but all I've seen is player racing forward to try and outrun both the ball and opposition defenders and generally failing at both.

You can have all great players you want but if they're most ly played out of position, you won't get value from anybody

Great Morgan! Hindsight makes it hard to compare the teams, but I reckon if we could transport ourselves back to March 2010, a fair few in that team were unkowns ( like today) and a fair few were pretty close to the end ( 5 by my reckoning...maybe 6) . Again, a bit like todays team.
Got to then apply the fact that 1 or 2 of todays team will be struck by fate and never get to where they should of (ie Mora).

I would concede the 2010 team is probably a year ahead in its development compared to 2018 team, and theres more experience in the spine, but, pound for pound, I reckon a lot of the 2018 team could be viewed as having more "upside" than some in the 2010 team.

Great exercise to go through and ponder though....

The need for a half back flanker with speed, ability to kick long and break lines is a good point. What I don't get is that we've got one, well we did last year, but decided for some unknown reason after a breakout season to move him away from that position back into the Freo graveyard at half forward.
I'd like to see Crozier back there and given a Jeremy Howe like freedom to go for it and take the game on, but I don't think that's the Roly way.

I understand the concept Corporal....but what happens when Langdon comes back into the team?? (and how far away is he btw..??) And then there's Balic, who, with 2 Hills in the team is a bit hard to place...its either got to be on a half back or half forward flank.

So where does Crozier best fit?? He can't keep flippantly missing set shots like he does, but he does add that 'X factor' with his leaping and what-not. His biggest problem when in the forward line is consistency from week to week, and then also within each match. Thought he did some very good stuff in the Derby, but he matched it with some real stupid stuff.

Maybe he's a trade we can get something for...or someone back??

See your point Cletus but I would play Balic before Tucker and didn't really think Langdon has done enough to say he's a start up in our best available 22 yet.

Crazy, I know, but with the likelihood of a couple of pacy mids to come n, would Mundy as a marking target forward with Fyfe, Blakely to pick up Mundy's spot, and a smart and elite left footer in Hill to replace Blakely back there work? And Crozier to go back and replace one of the smalls.

Understand...but I'm starting to wonder if Crozier is also?? Been along time since 2011 when he was drafted.....He's had a horrible bout of the "in then out, then in again" syndrome, but he's had a decent stint this year and last, and he's not really standing out for all the potential he's promised.
NOTE : In NO WAY am I blaming Crozier for any results or recent performances...I just thought he'd be a bit more than he is by now...and I'm wondering when that will ...if ever ...happen.

I'd take Langdon instead of Crozier. And I wouldn't write of Ethan Hughes.

As for dash out of defence, well isn't that Weller you are describing? And note that dash out of defence is largely dependent on a tightly knit defence that knows exactly who to look for with the next hand pass, and to be prepared to shepherd. Something like the Bulldogs last year.

RR ..I reckon Hughes has been great, and he's been one of the developments of the season. He's definitely "a keeper", and has basically replaced Sutcliffe and is a long way in front I reckon. His marking has been the most impressive thing.

And MR ... Mundy forward, Blakely into the guts and Hill off HB has plenty of merit... Hill's knee is still not right - and is struggling to get involved before he hurt the shoulder. He might not pull up well from the latter. If he's not 100%, he shouldn't be in the middle. Drive of half back might be better use of him.

We need Jonathon Patton up forward and Jeremy McGovern down back.
Problems solved.

Bondy, get on to it.

If we had Patton on our list he would be TBA hamstring from pushing up the ground and sprinting back down it again.

He'd have kicked 13 goals for the year and Yeti would be calling for him to be replaced by Taberner.

Ohh Hypen, you had me until you mentioned Taberner.

Actually, I agree with the hammy bit from excess sprinting. I'm really not convinced we should be looking for any KPFs until we learn how to use them....and not as extra midfielders.

Mind you, if he only scores 13 goals a year, thats an even lower average than Kersten.

Light bulb moment - Hey What if we used our Forwards like "Forwards" and not like Olympic sprinters - just take a moment and imagine the possibilities if we let them pretend they were footballers whose job it was to kick goals and terrorise defenders who got in their way....
