Jeb, there wouldn't be enough under 15's in Widgie to put together a basketball team let alone a footy team, so I do think you are exaggerating a bit.

It's more about raising the profile and standard of the women's game Jeb than comparing it to the AFL. The skills may be sporadic but they haven't had a chance to build them up yet. Give the comp time to grow and for the young girls watching who now have a path and good reason to continue playing footy and becoming incredibly skilled adults that may rival the men to enter the competition.

This sort of thing doesn't happen over night.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

The men's game has had 110 years to get to the point it's at now and some of you want to lynch the women's game after 2 weeks for a perceived lack of standard. Sheesh!

Think Walter summed it up pretty well, the game needs time to develop. I will defend Jeb a little in that I have tried to get through 3 games and the most I have managed is 2 1/2 quarters as it is hard going. I think this will improve quickly even over the course of this short season. i also found this with 20 20 cricket initially as the first 4 or 5 games I tried to watch were over within a handful of overs.
I wish the game well and it is true that it has to start somewhere. Being a father I have watched a lot of junior games and there have been a few young girls that have been reasonable players, that I imagine must stop playing at certain age, I feel for them and hope they now have an avenue to continue. I am from a regional area, and from what I can see there are nowhere near the numbers that any sort of competition could be formed. I am sure that the AFLW will help in this area and this could very well change quickly with the level of publicity and hype generated.
I personally find Netball a very enjoyable game to watch at the highest level, and would like this developed so that more people took the time to watch women compete at the elite level. The game is highly skilled fast and exciting. So for mine I will continue to watch netball when I get the chance, and observe the AFLW from afar until it becomes more enjoyable to watch as a game of Footy.

Men have more strength and a little faster reaction times* but there big advantage is that they have have is time in competitive football environments before reaching the AFL. Skills and standards build.

* On the other side, women have better developed brain areas for language so are very likely to beat men at the critical skill of sledging - already. Another part of the footy brain. Mike 'em up, I say.
