Ok Morgan I am going to have a crack at applying your logic to the Bulldogs premiership team under the criteria of stars/very good and role players. I will list without the inflated rating of having just won a premiership and rate them how they may have been rated at the beginning of the year.
Stars
M Bontempelli, T Liberatore, E Wood, J Stringer, J Johannisen,
Very Good
L Hunter, L Picken, J McRae, C Smith, M Boyd, D Morris, L Dahlhaus
Role Players
T Boyd, T Dickson, T McLean, Z Cordy, C Daniel, S Biggs, J Dunkley, J Hamling, F Roberts, J Roughead
I personally think I am being generous in ranking Johannisen and Liberatore as stars. I see stars as players clearly in a league of their own or with extended periods of high performance. D Morris and M Boyd would qualify but until a couple of years ago were looking like they might almost be finished. T Boyd is listed as a role player because up until 6 weeks ago he wasn't even getting a game.
In my opinion the Western Bulldogs have just won a premiership with a team of role players some of whom are now much more than that.
I find it hard to believe that so many people are willing to take the form line of last year to be the true indicator of where we are as a team and disregard the previous 4years. I am as guilty as anybody for getting despondent and having a rant this year but I think there is plenty of reason for optimism and can't see anything at all to be critical of the club during this trade period.
