TOPIC: Steven Motlop

Is he worth a look? From all reports he is on big money at the Cats and the want to offload him to make room for some incoming players. I would be asking the question.

When he wants to, but with the makeup of our best 22 now I think Ross and co will have their work cut out getting them to gel and deliver a premiership. Motlop would demand the services of 2 full time psychologists, is a primma donna and wont come cheap. Let him be Geelong's problem!

How many players can we get? Still haven't got Kersten and Hamling sorted so would have to be trades. Can't see who Geelong would want that we are willing to part with.

I don't think he's any more temperamental than any number of others, but I think he is just a good player, not a great one. And it feels like he is past his best. And I would pick Walters (comfortably) and Ballas (just) before him to play a similar role.

Motlop has played some spectacular footy then he just seems to slip into cruise mode for stretches at a time. I question his defensive side as well.

I reckon the small forward position is one of the positions most influenced by the form of the rest of the team, and the flow of the game. Put it this way, you aren't at he contest, people don't specifically kick it to you that often, and you can't run into the backline to chase a cheap kick.

And yet, if a team loses, fans look for 'passengers', and invariably there's a 'mercurial' small forward who only had 8 touches.

Clubs have GPS data on players, and whole of field game tape. From that I reckon a club would know if a player is putting in regardless of outcomes. Personally, I reckon unless you have seen that data, it's hard to say a bloke like Motlop is cruising or things just aren't going his way.

He has pace and skill, which is two things we lack. At 25 he's right on the cusp of being too old for rebuilding side, but for the right price I reckon he'd be an interesting bet, depending on how the club rates some of our younger players. .

To me he would be occupying the same role as Shane Yarran and I think Shane is a harder worker than Motlop whilst possessing similar skills. Yarran, I feel, is a little better at executing under pressure which saw Motlop come undone on a number of occasions in games leading up to and in the finals. No room for Motlop as we also have Walters, Ballantyne and Bennell playing similar roles in midfield/forward spots.

Our next priority is a key defender who can't demote ZeD further down the list. We may well have seen the best of Michael J and he hasn't seen out a season for a few years. APearce still needs time. Get Hamling or equivalent first.

He is a better player than B Hill. Motlop is no longer an option for us though and nor should he be when we are 'rebuilding'.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.
