As raised by Barlow's agent, I reckon there was a mature conversation along the lines of:
Barlow's agent: Mick wants a two year deal on good money.
Bond: Mick's a fine player, and a great bloke, but the coach has indicated there's no guarantee that he'll get a regular game, so I'm only prepared to offer a one year deal, on average money.
Barlow's agent: Mick would love to stay, but I think Mick can do better than that.
Bond: We would love Mick to stay, but you might be right about him getting a better contract. You're welcome to look for other offers, and we'll do our best to find a trade if there's interest.
Barlow's agent: Ok, let's stay in touch. Good meeting.
Bond: Good meeting. Want to go and get salted caramel mocha light frappuccinos?
Barlow's agent. Ummm, maybe next time.
Bond: People always say that, but the never mean it.
