TOPIC: DeBoer and Scos

Jezza also you could add Crozier to that back line. Weller also seemed to spend a lot of time back there today and his disposal coming out was crisp so this could be another good find.

So I agree, there is probably no room for De Boer as much as he is in some ways the Shauney Mac of the team. We just have to bite the bullet now and turn over our players who cant kick. Id simply choose our worst 5 kicks and plan for their trades. Unfortunately that probably means Mayney and De Boer. Dutchy played a good game though today, he played to his limitations and tackled his guts out. I wont be gnashing teeth if we keep him but understand if we dont.

, being a glass the right size type of person, I'd like to think that if all our defenders only got 2 possessions each, it would mean the ball in our forward line all game and us scoring 30 odd goals.

Whatever anyone says, Freo always look a better side when Deboer is playing.

Both Dawson and SCOS are honest players who make the most of their limited talent. I think both are fringe AFL players whose role in the team is dependent on who else you have on your list. So, I don't think I've ever said I didn't rate SCOS - in fact, I'm pretty sure I've said he's a better player than Dawson - I just always thought that if we had a backline with McPharlin and Johnson in it (which we have had for many years), we were better off having Dawson as the third tall defender than SCOS.

The make-up of our team has changed, and if next year we are going to have A Pearce and Collins as our key backs, then I reckon SCOS is a better fit than Dawson.

That said, Collins looked a little lost when we were under the pump this year. Hopefully another year in the system will help, and Dawson can be relegated to a back-up role.

Brady Grey has a lot of the traits that Matt De Boer has, and is also out of contract.

De Boer was given some time as a mid on the weekend, and of course he looks pretty good...aggressive, big tank and great hands. His kicking is ok...he at least can kick on his left foot with some precision. Players like De Boer should always be on our list...you can trust him to put everything on the line every time he steps out. And his kicking is no worse than a lot of regulars in that team. Sydney had Kirk, we have De Boer...but he is not valued anywhere as much as Kirk was. Kirk was given some appreciation and he never failed to deliver every ounce he had, De Boer would do the same.

I love de Boer, and would want to pick him every week. The question is, what is our team lacking? Assuming we have Fyfe, Mundy, Neale and Barlow still in the team next year - and I hope we do - we've probably got enough tough inside players. Again, I think he's a victim of the current make-up of the team. What we need is some more run and spread, and some precision ball users. He's not that, and I think some of our younger players will come in to play that role.

On the right team, I think he could be a handy pick-up.

We know what we lack. But every squad needs toilers and fill ins. We can never guarantee putting the best 22 on the park every week. Johnson will be lucky to make it through all of 2017. If he picks up another serious injury, chances are he won't come back.

I'm not sure which selection of run and spread your were watching yesterday, Morgan, but I saw Deboer do it multiple times. A couple of them resulted in goals and a couple more in scoring opportunities.

Yeah, you're probably right Morgan. Love him but he deserves a regular gig at a club who really needs a tough in and under. How big a cleanout are we going to have...that's what I can't wait to see.

The Pig put his goal into the second row at the top of the three tier stand on Sunday - anyone who thinks he can't kick has been listening to RoLy too much. He could be our Mathew Boyd if given the opportunity.

I'm discounting Sunday's game. Aside from the emotional and sentimental value Freo scored 69 points. Yes it was enough to win the game and wins have been few and far between but it's the sort of game that would have had many calling for heads to roll mid way through last season.
The fact that the Pig has not had much of a run this year would suggest his cards are marked. One good game won't change that unfortunately and I think he has had enough chances to show his wares. Handy player but not indispensable.

Love him too. But playing him on Sunday was just putting him in the shop window and they're should be a couple of buyers after that performance. Good luck at your new club, Matt.
