My beloved club's getting hammered from all directions - from friends, foes, supporters, and even the disinterested. Even my partner, who honestly could not give a rat’s behind about footy asked me why the Dockers weren’t doing well this year. This from someone who wouldn’t know who played in the GF last year and who couldn’t be bothered figuring it out even after I couldn’t stop laughing for days afterwards.
Now, on 6PR, they’re predicting an exodus of players - Neale’s off to North Melbourne, Pav’s as good as gone within weeks, Clarke’s off, Griffin - not Griff! - wants out. People calling to talk about the game plan - the lack thereof, the tweaks, the fact that it will be redundant once we actually learn the new game plan. The coach who has committed to a long-term tenure, now suddenly isn’t the man for re-developing the club. Even when the president of the club gives a parry to the thrust-and-parry of kicking Freo when it’s down by the Worst, it’s met with cynicism and good dose of distrust - and this from supporters!
Much as I love the team, I couldn’t tip them to beat Adelaide (I want to stay on top of my tipping comp).
At these tough times, I’ll still be there cheering at home games and yelling support at the TV as if they could hear me. Hang tough people. Surely there’s blue sky ahead. I hope.
