That was my suspicion DK, fuelled by the overall oiliness and stink of old fish.

You know what? I'm pretty happy with our coach, I'm pretty happy with our blokes. I'm not so happy with the hurdles we have to overcome (on top of the tyranny of distance that comes with the territory), or some pretty public-service performance by our recruiters/trade merchants/ list management over the past few years.
Winning a flag is a tough gig, and it needs skill, perspiration and lots of luck.
I believe we'll be around the mark for a while yet. The pressure is on Chris Bond and his team to deliver the goods or move on.

While I have criticism of Lyon's tactics and game plans, I don't call for him to be sacked. I also don't agree with whatever was in that initial post having read it all.

Having said that I do think RL's tactics need to change as they are clearly not working well enough to get us where we should and need to be and a big part of that is our set up ahead of the ball (or lack there of).
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Bizkit, in support of your post, in 2015, Freo had;
The highest average of stoppages per game.
The best Hit Out differential (For - Against) by a large margin over the next best (courtesy of 211).
The best Clearances differential by a large margin (courtesy of 211, Fyfe, Mundy, etc...).
Yet their i50s are comparatively poor versus Hawthorn and West Coast ... and that then leads to poor Scoring points for, Marks inside 50 etc...
All other stats, when compared to Hawthorn and West Coast, eg, rebounds, disposal efficiency, bounces, contested possession, etc... appear to be good.

Compared to the Slime and WeePoos, Freo have far fewer players consistently providing i50s. After D.Pearce, S.Hill, Fyfe and Mundy, the i50 providers fall off quickly. Crowley, Duffield, Mzungu, DeBoer & Sutcliffe were good i50 contributors in 2014, but not there in 2015 and not replaced by others.

I'm a huge Roly fan, (a good team defence is essential, which Hawks and Slime have) but the one thing I will say in regards to this i50 stats concern, is some of these players appear to be becoming more defensive and in the process being too concerned of their opposition players, instead of contesting and attacking the football. The Slime are spreading with quick wide handballs extremely well. Hawthorn use short efficient uncontested possession to great effect and both of them are great at lowering the eyes and hitting targets i50. Freo is not.
Harley Bennell, in my opinion, will be a massive get for Freo to improve this area of deficiency. Apart from that, I'm praying for McCarthy or some much needed dramatic improvement in some of Freo's younger players in the squad.
Gone to bigfooty where there's fewer Docker Haters.

What is seen by many as the biggest disaster to hit Freo in it's short history, the upcoming retirements of Pav and Luke, could in fact be the winning of a flag in '16 or '17. It will force a change in game pplan and bring in some players who will relish the extra responsibility. Pearce A has already shown he will accept that challenge, Tabs can step into Pav's shoes ( not exactly fill them, but go some way in that regard) over the next couple of years, and if we don't pick up McCarthy or someone of his ilk, then Fyfe or Mundy will do as a power forward with Blakely, Weller and co champing at the bit for a crack at the midfield.

While RoLy is criticised for holding these young players back for too long, they all get a taste, then go back to the WAFL to develop some more, another taste, more development at WAFL level 'til they are ready for the tough week in week out grind of AFL footy. That will stand them in good stead as far as the longevity of their careers go and lessen the "second year blues " that many young players seem to suffer. Fyfe is one of the few exceptions to this, but he is exceptional.

As far as the development of Tabs goes, and comparing him to Pav, people need to remember that Pav spent a lot of time in defence and the midfield before he became the power forward that he is today.

It's true, Lyon will never bring home the cup.

Bond won't pay for the extra business class seat to get it on the plane.

I was fishing off Seaford pier a few years back, when a great splodge of stinking fishy [email protected]#t landed right next to me*. I look around in bewilderment, and sitting atop the light pole behind me is a dirty great pelican.

I honestly never thought it would happen again.

*complete with an entire fishing rig - rusty berley cage and hook and swivel with a couple of metres of line

I will watch with interest the second half of this game to see if Hawks now go to a defensive protect our lead style of play, or continue to attack and beat their opposition. This Imo is one of the problems with Lyons game style is the defensive structured way we play. Whilst it is effective and wins a high percentage of games, at times we seem to play very professionally but without freedom.

Agreed docbert, my point is made about when we are playing well and dominating our opposition we then choose to defend a lead. Admittedly this style mostly keeps us in the contest but, I am starting to question whether this gets it done against the best as they know they will get their chance, and if when they do they score heavily will probably win. It also pisses me off to not be able to watch us smash teams we have put away early.

All those early flogging second halves should have been used to give Mayne (and other goats) goal kicking practice.
