TOPIC: Spack/Pearce/Tabs

Just thinking of our lineup for our qualifying game, and I'm intrigued by which talls we are going to go with:

Defense - Spack vs A Pearce
Whilst Pearce is definitely the future, is he ready for the heat that comes with finals? With Sydney's ta forward line, and both Reid and Tippett both finding form, think I'm almost more comfortable with Zac D being in the team...surely his experience will count for something?

Forward - Tabs vs A Pearce
Although he was very wasteful on the weekend, I thought Tabs was actually pretty good on the weekend...seems to hold onto his marks a bit better, or was it just me? Anyways, he does look more of a natural forward than Pearce, seemed like his time at Peel did some good...

Can't believe I'm actually saying this, but I think A Pearce won't be in our team on Saturday...

With a bit of luck, Tabs could have kicked 4 or 5 on the weekend. He missed a couple that he probably should have kicked, but also missed out on 2 or 3 free kicks that were paid down the other end.

Off topic I know, but it was also very annoying to put up with the commentators put downs on the Freo forwards, their dribble about Butcher, and their cheering of his goal when he kicked it. What have we done to deserve the totally biased, and pathetic team of "commentators" that we have to put up with each week? I know you should be careful what you wish for, but wishing that we didn't have to listen to Den, Bwuce and Basil each week shouldn't cost us these morons.. Barry Hall sounds like the only real commentator amongst them.

RM, just out of curiosity, is there a topic you can't turn into a comment about bias against Freo.

A Pearce would be unlucky to miss out, but against taller teams I agree the AA / Johnno / Zed combination is most likely. It will be interesting to see if we add another tall in the forward line. Given the likelihood of rain we might choose to go small against Sydney.

The forecast is for rain on Saturday. Is there a risk of going in too tall if we play all the big boys plus APearce and Tabs?

It may come down to a decision between Alex and Ibbo. I guess we go with experience.

It rained last year in Sydney for our final and we went in tall. It didn't end well.

Its quite amazing how much support is on here for Clarke and Taberner, both have had way too many chances already to prove themselves and havent. Crozier also looks the same. Our selections will come down to who is available, who we are up against, and the weather. Dawson will get picked ahead of APearce, who was completely beaten yesterday by a first gamer who cant kick.

Almost as amazing as saying that 2 players with a combined total of 61 games and only one who has turned 22 as having way to many chances. Especially when the 'old' one is a KPP.

As to Clarke, he certainly has his down days but still offers a lot on his good days. If he can manage to bridge the gap in a positive fashion, then he's a keeper. I don't think his last game is a genuine reflection of his talent though.

If you are talking about Butcher , he has played 28 games and been around longer than Tabs.

There probably is Morgan. But I'm not sure if it's because we stream via the AFL website, but Dwayne Russell and co seem to have called a majority of Freo games this year, and it gets a bit much listening to them. I know, turn the volume down is the best option, but I cant wait for the finals when the pool of commentators means an improvement in quality.

A decision between Ibbo & The Moose? You're pulling my leg Shirley.
We're talking about a young kid who has played about 8 games and is still finding his way against an experienced, rock steady player in AA form.
That would also mean that you think Sutcliffe and Sheridan are also better value than Ibbo down back.

As for Clarke, his good days might be good, but they're so few and far between nobody can remember them.
Clubs are always looking for ruckmen. Trade material for sure. You've got to give something to get something and if we want to be active in the trade market he's right up there.

Rogerrocks, surely Ibbo is an automatic selection? He's had a superb year...

Think A Pearce was exposed somewhat by Butcher, but surely the lack of midfield pressure, along with Port's 69 inside-50 entries, must be taken into consideration...but again, don't think Pearce will get a game ahead of Zac D...
