Is that useless nood nut gonna chase either of them???
Surely we are an attractive proposition...big bucks and a likely GF.
Dixon likes a nice drop of vino...send him some of Margaret Rivers finest.
Better still get him over for a booze cruise post season and wave the bucks under his nose after the 10th winery!
Carlisle a good swing man...just in a crap team where he dont wanna be right now.
I tell ya....if we get that shmuck Shultz thats it for me!!!
Time to earn ya pay Bondy.

I think you'll find that we have already discounted Dixon because of his sus. ankles.

Carlisle I'm not sure about, now if it was the Paddy variety I'd be all for it.

Yep, get a Harley and a Jetta and let's see those slow foot big defenders stop that stuff.

I agree with Harley and Jetta big time. But before we get all gussied up about how crap our man Tabenner is coming along and how we desperately need a key forward from elsewhere, have a squiz at the following stats. They show the current crop of notable key forwards running around the AFL and how they were scoring after 26 games which is what Tabs is on:
Lance Franklin - 30 goals
Jarryd Roughead - 10 goals
Tom Hwakins - 25 goals
Kurt Tippett - 25 goals
Ty Vickery - 12 goals
Jack Riewoldt - 25 goals
Jay Schulz - 15 goals
Charley Dixon - 15 goals
Chris Mayne - 14 goals
Matty Pavlich - 26 goals
Justin Westhoff - 41 goals
Nick Riewoldt - 17 goals
Jack Darling - 30 goals
Josh Kennedy - 17 goals
Jonathon Patton - 26 goals
Jeremy Cameron - 56 goals (wow)
So if we look at scoring which is what forwards are paid to do then at this stage of his career, Tabs is ahead of Kennedy, Roughead, N Riewoldt, Mayne, Dixon Schulz and Vickery. Tabs has kicked 21goals thus far apart from Westhoff, Franklin, Cameron and Darling he is developing quite nicely at the rate you would expect for a key forward.

Except the majority of those players if not all of them were much younger when hitting that games mark, playing in different positions like the backline or in unsuccessful sides that weren't on top of the ladder and unable to get the ball forward much of the time.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

This is the only year we have been on top of the ladder, most of those players would not know what the backline looks like other than when they change ends, and Tabs has played back on a number of occasions anyway. As for sides that were struggling Franklin, Cameron and Westhoff all played in struggling sides and are three of the top four scorers, Camerons team, GWS, regularly had 100 plus scores kicked against them. Tabener is what 21, this is his third season, that means, he was drafted at 18 debuted when he was 19 so age is about the same. Good team bad team is irrelevant, the fact is key position forwards take time to develop. When he has played fifty games we will see what sort of player he is. Schulz may be a great foil to bring Tabs on.

Had Tabs played most of his games under the roof at Docklands (ie dry conditions ideal for tall forward) his figures and form may have been even better. This year, just when he should be making his mark, all he copped as far as conditions go was rain and wind. That is bad luck for him, but I think he is coming along nicely, and as has been noted before, Pav seems to find more freedom and goals when Tabs plays, so I wouldn't be surprised to see him line up on Sunday. But if he does and plays well I guess it will be put down to the fact we only played the Demons

We have been a highly successful side the past 3 years and on top or near it for most of that period including making a grand final. I think Hawkins is probably the only player to enter a successful side from the get go other than Tabs.

As for different positions, many of them like Pav, Westhoff, Vickery, Tippett, Dixon and Roughead spent significant time down back or in the ruck, well over 50%. Tabs spending a quarter or two down back because of injuries when he wasn't gonna kick a goal regardless doesn't really compare.

Tabs is 22 and the equivalent of a 4th year player. Bring me the stats on what those players had achieved by that age for comparison.

Don't start questioning the stats Bizkit. You'll still be at it three days later, and it will only serve to get people riled up.

I just like what I see in the way the forward line functions with Tabs in there, and would like to see him playing for a few weeks in good conditions. The next 6 or 7 weeks could be his chance to make his name.
He also adds a bit of hardness and is willing to go in and support teammates in trouble, without getting reported. And he is very rarely out marked, bringing the ball to ground should suit Mikey and Ballas.

Tabs is performing well as a rookie selection. With time and patience, he could be a solid contributor.

You have to be very lucky to get an exceptional, or even above average, KPP outside the top picks in a draft. We haven't been very lucky, but as others point out, we haven't given ourselves a chance to be lucky. If Bondy was offered $50, or a 1/10 chance to win $500, he'd take the $50 every time.

As for Dixon or Carlisle, I'd take Dixon. If you're choosing between a sulky KPP, or an angry one, take the angry one every time.

Fair point about the blokes limited time down back, but how many times has he been subbed out and hence only played max 70-75% game time?
Even if the boy played 65% of the game on field, he is still doing alright I reckon, and while his limitations are evident, there is still plenty of upside: 9 marks for Peel last weekend being one.

Tabs is going fine. He attacks the ball well, kicks usually accurately, gets his hand to it and runs all day. HE IS ONLY 22. Hopefully he will start marking them soon.
In the meantime we know A Pearce isn't a natural forward but could take over long term from Elvis. Lets face it, hes going to be better than the Fist as he fills out because he actually can use his feet to kick.
I wouldn't knock back Schultz in the meantime. I know he looks like a crab now but he looked like an all Australian forward a year or so ago when Port were up and about. Two years for the Seargent until Tabs is clunking them would do us nicely.
