In 2014 and 2015 there appears to me to be a pattern with the Free Kick statistics for Freo.

In 2015, up to and including Round 6, our Free Kick Tally was 126 vs 102 (positive to Freo).
From Round 7 onwards it has been 173 vs 220. 11 games, 9 on the wrong side of the Free Kick ledger. The only two positives were both at Home, R14 vs BL & R18 vs GWS.
In our matches vs Vic based teams since R7 it has been 107 vs 150. 7 Games, all on the wrong side of the Free Kick ledger.

In 2014 up to and including Round 7, Freo were 118 vs 114 (positive to Freo).
From Round 8 onwards it was 238 vs 305. 17 games, 13 on the wrong side (plus one draw) of the Free Kick Ledger. 3 of the other 4 were non-vic teams.
In our matches vs Vic based teams from Round 8, it was 111 vs 161. 8 Games, 7 on the wrong side of the Free Kick Ledger.
Gone to bigfooty where there's fewer Docker Haters.

Also, for 2014 & 2015 Freo have;
- played 41 games.
- been on the positive side of the Free Kick tally 13 times, plus once even. Freo won 13 of those 14.
- lost 10 games, 9 of which we were on the wrong side of the Free Kick tally.
Gone to bigfooty where there's fewer Docker Haters.

I often doubt that the umpies are always against us and for everybody else.

You can present stats in a million different ways.

I wonder if the free kick counts against are higher for teams that operate by applying extreme pressure on the opposition, e.g. us, hawks and richmond lately. Increased pressure on the ball carriers could mean potentially more high tackles, pushes in the back etc etc. Would be an interesting exercise to compare these to the more free running sides such as the bulldogs or port?

While I don't reckon there's any conscious conspiracies, perception plays a big role in the kind of under-presuure-rushed-decision-making involved with umpiring. Freo has a poor perception/image in the eyes of most of the AFL world so I reckon that plays a big a part as any. When everyone was swept up in their form they get more breaks.

The pressure game style explanation doesn't wash too much, because even when Freo dominate possession, they don't get a big break in free kicks either.
