Shane, I always preferred Kipling when he was in a truly dark place, like in Natural Theology...

"We had a kettle; we let it leak:
Our not repairing it made it worse.
We haven't had any tea for a week. . .
The bottom is out of the Universe!"

Tend to agree with you Morgan in that this is the perfect opportunity for Crozier to step up. Not unlike Micky Walters a few years ago after his 'exile'.
I'm more interested in who they bring to the 22. If it's Weller, then great for him but I'd like to see them give Duffy another run. He's been hitting the scoreboard for Peel and was excellent in that small forward role in the Geelong game last year - IMHO.

Duffy has a calf injury. Listed as 2-3 weeks.

Mundy gastro. Maybe they should all get if it makes us play as well as he did on Saturday.

This is a big blow. Ballas brings a lot to our forward pressure. But he can also do the mecurial and is a great set shot. Only saving grace is that his goal scoring form hasn't been great and we have been winning. So do we replace him with a defensive forward (De Boer) or do we try to bring Crozier in and see what he can do with a run of games. I like the idea of bringing Blakely in and rotating him with Neale in the forward line. They can both play in and under and both seem to have a nous for goal scoring.

Bad news for Balla and his missus, he'll be grumpy. I hope the replacement has better judgement about boot type selection than the Mayor. I.e not the flat shoe on ice variety.

He was out for finals last year too. That ended well.

When we lost son son for most of last year, I think, they wrote Freo off. We're on top of the ladder, one game clear, most have written Freo off. Experts have tipped the Eagles to challenge Hawks for the flag. Fair dinkum, when is all this garbage going to end. Remind me again, when the GF is played. A budgie supporter at work told me this morning that Freo was lucky again on the weekend. A better team would have beaten us. I'm starting to wonder if Freo are overrated. Getting reminded by a budgie supporter that our season is just a false dawn is just not cricket.

Put not your faith in the mindless squawkings of the Slime Brigade. They have sprung out of the woodwork though, the best way to deal with the infestation is to pepper spray them when they pop up in your face.

Bad luck Ballas, hope you get better soon...

This does make for an interesting selection dilemma...if Crozier makes the next step and does well in Ballatyne's absence (I'm with Morgan and co that I think he will do well if given an extended run in the first team), is Ballas an automatic selection if he gets over his injury in time for the finals?

A lot of people like the throw your hands up and scream it's the end of the world option, don't they?

Must be the whole following a top of the table team thing. Rarified air makes 'em dizzy, or something.

I wonder if any of them were the same posters claiming Ballas wasn't doing enough, a few weeks back.

If the team can't cover for this then it's a worry. Fortunately, they can.

All this stuff about Ballas being a 'barometer' for the team is complete garbage in my opinion.

If it was all that simple, you'd be picking Michael Schultz with your first selection in the 2015 draft

Could there an issue with having two lefties as small forwards? Probably the preference is for a lefty and a righty for balance, but Crozier and Walters have gone ok before - notably in the win against Hawthorn at Subiaco last year. Also thought Crozier showed a bit in the final against Port.

Obviously not Duffy because of injury. Langdon too lite, only recently returned from injury. Grey offers pressure, tackling, but that would be like having DeBoer Mk2 up there, and I have doubts whether that defensive forward role gives the team much.

Weller seems the best bet, but his inclusion would probably have to come at the expense of shuffling the team and dropping another lighter bodied player like Sheridan or Crozier from the team that played Carlton.

I suppose if its two lefties they go with, D.Pearce could also rotate with small forwards and someone like Weller or Blakey could come into the midfield.

Realistically though, going on past selection the most radical thing that will happen will be that a new player might get the subs vest.

Hawthorn don't seem to have trouble with lefties. Half their bloody team are!
