rogerrocks, the problem is that umpires now tend to call play on after a very short time (unless player is having a set shot) or as soon as a player starts to kick over the man on the mark, often even when they do not even move off their line.
I have seen several times now when as Grick describes, the Hawthorn player comes in from the side to tackle when the opposition player is simply taking their legitimate kick.
Hawthorn did this quite a few times against Essendon a couple of weeks ago. On one occasion the ump pulled them up on it and gave 50m, but most of the time, it pressured the kicker and led to turnovers.
