The issue is less about depth and more about players not handling wet or greasy conditions.

No tall forwards on either side scored goals last night.

The people looking for escaped goats need to add D. Pearce to their list. He's done very little for several weeks.

Mayne always tries his guts out, but I think his perception of what he can do in the air as opposed to what he can actually do are far apart. Also, we are better off kicking the pill in front of Son son and Balla when they are one on one, probably more so Balla, rather than up in the air to mark.

Bpurple it is the same ugly lockdown footy that everyone in AFL right up to Dimwitrio said was a blight on the game when Roly had Freo playing it against top sides. Now it is a legitimate and preferable game style. And Freo continue to get a fair deal from the AFL and media? yeah right.

When you've won 11 from 12 games and sit on top of the AFL ladder, with apparently a forward line that's struggling, I don't quite understand. Now that the Swans have lost giving us a 2 game buffer, what does that say about the Swans forward line with Buddy and Tippett. Like Roly said, it's the midfield that wins games and I think our midfield depth is fantastic.

I wouldn't be getting too excited about the 11-1 ratio. Too many wins have been by a small margin and but for the vagaries of time and time keeping could easily have gone the other way.

The selectors are doing their best to make something out of generally poor recruiting over the last few years but Clarke, Sheridan, Crozier, Sutcliffe, Hannath and even Suban have had plenty of time to make it and haven't. A mix of Mzungu, De Boer, Blakely and Weller is worth a go.

Walba I have to disagree.

Yes we have had some close games this season, but nonetheless our record still stands at 11-1 and 2 games clear on top of the ladder.

Hawthorn Losses include - Essedon (2pts). Port (8 pts) GWS (10pts) Syd (4 Pts)

Sydney Losses include - Freo (14 pts) WB (4pts) Richmond (18pts)

To me what that suggests is that we have been pretty resilient for the whole game and managed to hold off our opponents when it gets to the pressure points of the match. We could quite easily be 8-4, but we aren't, they are.

Hawthorn have the best percentage because in the weeks in between their losses they went out and hammered their opponents.. Good for them, big deal because at the end of the day our record reads 1st 11-1-0 (44) to their 5th 7-4-0 (28)

When it comes finals time, we have the form of when it gets close we get up, based on the fact hawthorn either blow them out of the water or lose, who would be more confident in a low scoring scrap?

Yeh but nah but yeh....
We are in a season long game and have scored heavily in the 1st, got to half time struggling but still in front.
Have came out and kicked the 1st one in the 3rd but there's a way to go in this game yet.
As with any game there's periods of ascendency and make no mistake we will regain it.
Final siren blows in October.
Need to work our butts off till then.

What is it with Sutcliffe now? Week after week he gets the job done, and now he "hasn't made it". I bet there are an awful ot of AFL coaches who just wish they had defenders who "haven't made it" in the same way as Sutcliffe!

Lack of depth?

A Pearce is our 5th best KP back, behind, AA Luke, AA Johno, The Fist & Scos. Yet he has shown in the last month that he'd be a starting 22 in just about every other team in the AwFL. yet those on here complain we have no depth!

my mind boggles.

as for our Fwd woes, IMHO Tabs was doing what was required in the dry, then a month of wet & slippery games has seen his inexperience exposed (he's not alone though in struggling to adapt to the conditions and I have to wonder why we are not training either at night or with the sprinklers on). he'll turn out ok.

Clarke has struggled to have an impact, as has Hannath.

I for one was very pleased to hear they are thinking of giving Griff a go as number 1 ruck and playing Sandi as the forward / backup ruck in the coming weeks as a way of giving Sandi a breather. think we all know it's too risky to rest Sandi by not playing him (Saints game comes to mind) but giving him 3-4 games as the forward / second ruck should keep him fresh for the rest of the year, and if it is close means he can still play the last 5-10 mins of the 4th in the ruck to get us over the line.
