He was an absolute star. I remember his first game. He led out from the goals, the incoming kick hit his hands and stuck fast. There was pressure from behind, and he was running at full pace, but the ball just stuck. And I thought, "Whoa, this guy is good". And he is.

So much class on and off the field. It turns out that his final game being captain of the indigenous allstars is very fitting.

One of my favourite players. Too bad his body gave in, but hopefully there's another chapter where he could easily assist somewhere.
Hopefully there's some father-son son's down the track.

A great career, congratulations. Father Time catches up with all of us. Hoping Fyfe can evade FT before he taps him on the shoulder too.

This is what being a great footy player is all about, this attitude towards the game.

"Walters was an ultimate team man, and his care for others also spilled out off the field.
Despite his many highlights, he hopes that will be his greatest legacy as a footballer.

“I’m just a boy from Midland who wanted to play the game that he loved,” he said.

“After being drafted, I saw how people from the community looked up to me, and I wanted to be a role model for them to show that if I can make it, they can make it.

“Later on in my career, I found a purpose, and that purpose was to play for the next generation and give them some sort of inspiration.

“I wanted to be an example for kids in my area to let them know that it doesn’t matter where you come from or what size you are, if you work hard, you can make it, and I feel I have done that to the best of my ability.”

He has so much be to be proud of the way he’s conducted himself as a Fremantle player and person. It’s been a pleasure watching him play with great passion for many years. The highlight reel will be impressive!
Best wishes for a healthy and happy future and spending more time with family and a well deserved retirement form the rewarding but rigorous demands of AFL football.

We as a club have been so lucky to see the likes of Abrahams, Farmer and Ballas….then came along Son Son.
Irrepressible, mercurial and brilliant all rolled into a pocket rocket. A heart and sole docker!
We’ll miss your celebrations and heart.

I have genuine love for this man.

This game can only take away so much when so much has been given.

Michael Walters gave, and gave and found ways to give some more.

Thanks, mate!

Early days I wondered why they persisted with him, and I am so glad I got this very wrong.
Such a talented player, on his day he could do anything. Really hope he stays around the club, such a great club man.
Always had time for the fans, I would see him at junior basketball every now and then, swamped by the kids but he gave them all some time.

One of the best. I remember being at one of his first games, at Subi. We were under the pump and Sonny was the cream rising to the top. You could see him lift to the occasion, marking him as one to watch. An all time great. I'm sure you're not finished yet, with all you give to culture, youth and footy.

And another +50 draft selection for Freo. I wonder whether that come from his humility and not seeking to be the front and centre attitude.
