IMeek finished 14th in the Hawks B&F last year, which is a great result for him and the Hawks. He didn’t mark it much, nor did he kick goals, but he did both last night. If he can continue to do that he can be an elite ruckman.

Jackson as a lead ruck was hugely disappointing at the end of last year. I never thought he should be a permanent ruckman, but I thought he could thrive solo for at least few games a year.

I think we’ll win games without Darcy, but at his best - even as a young ruckman - he’s a club champion / AA calibre player. To Bizkit’s point we’ve got some cover everywhere else. He’s not our best player, but he is maybe our least replaceable good player - or at least second behind Treacy.

I don’t like the idea of using Treacy as a fill in ruck. He’s one of our key forwards, too important to wear him out beat him up against much bigger specialist opponents.

Completely agree. Treacy is too important to risk some goomba kneeing him in the PCL. Not only is he a great forward, he has the swagger that we need in a team that can go into their shells too often.

Can Voss give a contest in the ruck?

yes, you do not play the 2025 AA CHF in the ruck.

Play reidy when Darcy out so you don't upset the fwd structure.

End of last season Jackson went to the ruck and it all went pear shaped as they inexplicably plugged the fwd line with Tabs.

I agree too...Voss is a little bigger than Treacy and has some similar mongrel about him, but he isn't a ruckman. If he comes in to ruck, who goes out?

I say leave Reidy in while Darcy is out...how well did Meek go in his early stages?

It seems like the options are to pick Reidy or Voss. To be honest, when in doubt I reckon just pick the best player. I’d be inclined to pick Voss and let Jackson ruck more against everyone but the big goombas like Nankervis, O’Brien and Meek.

With Geelong (de Koning) and Sydney (Grundy) first up, I think I’d play Jackson in the ruck, then give Darcy a soft start against West Coast.

Reidy is Lloyd Meek all over again. By seasons end Reidy will be a reliable ruck for Fremantle. Reidy is 24 and hitting his prime, he'll be good. Not great. Like Meek.

Fremantle are very excited by him as they were Meek. They know rucks take time. Some around here know this too. But they're all in on another argument.

I read football analyst Bizkit say that Gawn killed Reidy in the scratch match.

I saw Tony Lockett kick ten on the fullback of the century when he was in his first season.

Give Reidy a go.

There is no doubt culturally and physically freo have come along way.

Unfortunately their skill level is still not comparable to the very elite sides like Sydney,Brisbane and hawthorn.
In fact especially early in games when the heat is really on , they are quite a way back compared to many of the top 8 contestants.
Skill killed them in many of their close games and there is nothing in the preseason where I have seen that change noticeably. If you saw the Sydney , hawthorn game Friday night it is frightening how far we still have to go.

Cross our fingers that we can get through to the 8 and see where we go from there.

If we had Knobel still on our list we would probably be looking to play him ahead of Reidy, whom I think is basically at max output. I hope I’m wrong. But delisting Knobel to rookie him and letting GC swoop in was so $&@#, and just way too risky. Really poor list management. Knobel is the sort of footballer you want to put games into for improvement. Comparing Meek to Reidy is, frankly, laughable.

If we all cast our minds back a tall thin man from Mt Barker arrived at Freo and I remember both supporters and the media said he is to gangly and thin and will never make the rigours of AFL- Aaron Sandilands! Certainly, the loss of Meek and Knobel is bewildering and poor player management in the extreme as both were prepared to stay. If you watch some of the Thunder games from last year Reidy shows potential and with the guidance of a hardened AFL ruck coach he will deliver- At age 24, 6 foot 8 inches with 94 kegs he will feed our hungry midfield!

We can't keep everyone, and nor can any other club. I'm happy Meek got picked up and is doing well (as much as I despise Hawthorn). Would we want the guy just hanging around waiting for Darcy to get injured? I always think of Zac Clarke who was more than serviceable when Sandi got injured, and how far he could have gone if he had more opportunities.

Freo didn’t let Meek slip away. We all could see that he was a good player in the making. It wouldn’t have been fair on the bloke to hang onto him stuffing around in the seconds while everyone could see that he was a good enough player to get a start at many other clubs.
Freo did the right thing by Lloyd Meek and I’m proud of them for doing so.
