I’m feeling the inflationary pressure.

An increase isn’t unexpected with salaries, wages, power and Gatorade costs going up and people wanting to work a four day week in some places……mainly on a hill in West Perth. Let’s hope the players don’t adopt the work from home rule.

My membership went up $16. I am OK with this.
What astounded me the most was the Kayo increase. It was $250 this year, just under $21 a month for 2 devices. It was a great saving. Now, it's gone up $100 to $350, a 40% increase and you have to pay for 12 months.
Not impressed. Have cancelled our Kayo renewal.

As for Kayo...we'll be cancelling. So many times unable to watch due to 'technical faults/erros' etc etc. Pathetic waste of money.

Turning back to the question posed at the start of this thread:
I’ve downgraded memberships to something called Purple Army - $50 a year, no reserved seat but continuation of my 20 year membership, in case things improve personally and I can manage to attend games again, unless it gets too pricey. I’ve also cancelled Kayo because it’s always been clunky to use, so no genuine improvement in service, while becoming overpriced, unreliable and now has adverts.

I thought Foxtel always owned Kayo. All the streaming services have given up using low prices to increase market share and are now focused on getting more money from existing subscribers.

Come to think of it, supermarkets, bicycle makers, car makers, insurance companies... just about everybody is following this strategy - hence inflation.

We're up $26 across one adult plus one junior ticket.

As for Kayo, if economics is 99% supply and demand, demand from this end is low and lowering.
They will say that $350 based on their standard pricing is 12 months for the price of 10.
But if you want it to watch footy you barely need 8 months anyway.
They can't broadcast the Grand Final so 7 months would probably do.

I think a lot about what I’ve called the ‘Sh*t First Car Theory’, a theory of mine that having driven a car in your formative years with windows that don’t wind down, CV joints clicking around corners, occasional stalling at traffic lights and only AM radio, then for the rest of your life a decent car will feel luxurious.

I’d like to complain about Kayo, but if you had offered my 18-year-old self the chance to stream every AFL game live (or on demand) in HD each month for the cost of one hour’s worth of work at the minimum wage, then I would have thought you were crazy. I still think it’s amazing….and don’t get me started on Spotify; issues with artist payments aside, the idea of having almost every song in the world in your phone for less than the cost of one CD in the year 2000. What a world!

My Mum can't work modern TVs, and if my kid can't find an obscure TV show to watch immediately on a streaming service he throws a tantrum. Middle-aged people might be the only people who can truly appreciate streaming services.

I've been working overseas for most of the last footy season so had to sell me seat if anyone wanted it.
Anyway, got to the last month and ran out of money so was unable to pay my last monthly on time.
The girl in the office told me that they were happy to wait for the next month that I could pay but would miss the last home game. I told her that I was offshore, so she recommended that she'd try and sell it for me. I thanked her for her assistance, but she later cam back to tell me that I was unable to sell the seat as I hadn't paid my final monthly on time.

Anyway, fast forward to the renewals, I've just noted that I was able to sell a few seats during the year and this has paid nicely for the increase, plus they still want the final monthly even though they didn't allow me to sell the final home game which may have paid for that monthly...

I'm a bit annoyed about this, but anyway, my next year's membership is now slightly discounted even though its also paid my 2024 final monthly.

As for Kayo, I tried viewing it overseas through a VPN, but the buggars are too smart, so I have now suspended my monthly until I get back home. Unfortunately, that WatchAFL site for overseas viewers bl@@dy monthly subscribe is way more than the Kayo...
