It looked a fairly tame infraction. But over the course of the week I have thought about the incident and have come to feel that the suspension is justified. Firstly, it happenned 30 - 40 metres from where the ball was in play, and the whinging Swans tried unsuccesfully to argue that the ball was in play as Heeney was the next target for the kicker. They also argued that Heeney action in swatting away the defender to get separation happens 50 times a game. I call bullsh*t on that. If the defender is holding on, let him hold on and give the umpires the opportunity to pay a free kick. I don't see the need for the offensive player to be swatting (striking) the defender in order to create separation. The rules are there and Heeney breached them. Bad Luck son.

Yes, statements like this do not make sense. Shows the stupidity of law being above language and practitioners of law being above the law.

However, the outcome of this event is correct.

The farce is due the many other improper decisions that improperly and irreverently downgraded or let off or did not even cite players for breaking the rules and often causing injury to other players.

I get when the interpretation differs, or when the rules aren't applied consistently but this is incidental contact not a behind the play hit on someone.
