As for the game, I was there and the main thing that struck me was that when the ball was in dispute, the Doggies came out with it more often than not, and that wins matches. Now I'm not going to go full-on conspiracy here, but there was a brief piece of the second quarter where the umps decided that you no longer needed prior opportunity to be caught holding the ball, and 3 quick frees against Freo players were paid. After which the umpiring reverted to normal. That may have been part of why we were a bit tentative about picking up the ball. At least I try telling myself anything to avoid the obvious - we were rubbish.
But a much better conspiracy came from my Melbourne-based brother-in-law. Remember how the week before the Collingwood game Jlo had complained about the treatment Amiss has been receiving? And then that free-kick reversal about 100 m away from where Jye supposedly did something wrong, which resulted in a Pies goal? The conspiracy theory is that was just the umpires getting back at us for implying that they weren't looking after Jye. Now surely there are no thin-skinned umpires with big egos...
