That player who creates time and space; opportunity is not there. We have never missed a player more than Mundy.

Johnson is trying to be that player and Switkowski is not used properly. We need holding midfielders who draw players out of position. Not easy I know.

A team of contested bulls falling over each other.

Switkowski goes in and Fyfe goes forward or he goes out. Good on Johnson for trying to make some plays.

O'Meara is the least valuable of those players. Fyfe is obviously not the player he once was but his handballs out of congestion are sublime, as is his ability to strip the ball from the opposition.

I don’t which game you guys watched on Friday but several red flags fluttered in the breeze:
1. O’Mera is better foward than wing
2. Fyfe is slow and lacks foot skills
3. Until Swiz arrived our midfield looked slow, confused and handball obsessed.
4. Sonny is gone
5. We needed pace around the ground

fyfe is slow but is still elite at stoppages. he often purposefully draws more than one mid to tackle him before disposing which is what releases the other mids into space.

Hypen, you left out Young, and he is the nearest thing we have to the great Dave Mundy.

I agree that Switta should be used more often in bursts through the midfield.

I also like the idea of Jackson coming into the middle in bursts as well. Maybe we can try it if we get a comfortable lead one day?

I would love to see Sonny and Nat celebrate a Freo premiership as players, but there are legitimate concerns about both, despite their deserved legendary status.

I’m not writing either off, but we have to give opportunities to our youngsters if Sonny and Nat fail to deliver, hard as it will be to leave either out.

He is the general out there, and the nearest player we have had to a Gerard Neesham since, well since we started. He might not be kicking goals but look at his GA stats, and then double them for the unseen assists he provides.

I'm not slagging off Walters, this is my first comment on the matter this year, but it is a problem. I've been watching him closely at home games. Take out the Adelaide game, and he has the worst form in our 22. It's as if he has forgotten how to play the game. He is running to wrong positions, calls for the ball when he shouldn't, and unforgivably providing Iess pressure in the forward line than we should be expecting. Tongue-in-cheek he has free kick game only at present, and that doesn't cut it.

Although he doesn't have a ready-made replacement, I think you can consider Simpson, or JOM further forward and shuffle Raz or Brodie into the mix. I personally would drop him this week, but maybe Alice Springs before a bye is a chance to shine once more. I'm watching this space with interest.

Yes Mundy was unique in how good he was. However my point about midfielders making plays as distinct from handing off responsibility (that's what it seems like) remains. Warner and Heeney make plays, again top talent. Even Cam Guthrie and Switta, watch them create. A clever kick, side step, drawing the man. Not enough of that from some of our lads.

The other thing. Is there a worse play at night team in the competition than Fremantle? Slipping, fumbling was all on display last night again.

Many are overlooking the claims of young excitement machine Jack Delean, another 2 goals on the weekend as a possible replacement in the forward line and the obvious one Patrick Voss. Our forward line functioned a whole lot better with him in it and even though he is a tall option he applied as much defensive pressure as some of our smaller forwards. Either as a reluctant replacement for Amiss or as an accomplice the Collingwood defenders would not have been flexing their muscles as much if he had been there on Friday night. I love Jye but the fact cannot be ignored that he contributed nothing after he had that free kick given against him just before quarter time.

I remember when Stephen Hill was a skinny kid and other teams used to target him. He really struggled to break the tag because he didn't have the physical strength to push past them. He also wasn't afforded the protection of the 'big names' in the competition. He learned to work through it, but you can't do that in the WAFL where he could just run away from people. He had to take his lumps with the big boys.

Jye is going though the same thing now as a forward. Teams are manhandling him, and I reckon he's super frustrated and it's affecting other parts of his game. Again, I don't think he can learn to work through that in the WAFL.

If he's mentally or physically buggered from being beaten up, then by all means give him a week off, but if he can play, then I think he has to play in the seniors.

Young Johnson hasn't adapted to AFL level as yet and I think he needs to go back to Peel to work on a few things. Perhaps play him Full Forward and where he can learn to emulate his namesake Big Bob?
