Any Father/son prospects for us apart from Hayden. Likely Next Gen Academy kids. I don't think Adelaide are letting anyone near Curtin after the way they stole him from under the Eagles noses/beaks
Just wondering what would be the status of Ben Allen's kid at Collingwood. Is he someone we should consider bringing home?

In terms of this year's draft, there hasn't been a huge amount of football just yet so there's a lot to shake out with the draft. Based mostly on performances from players last year, the top end is very midfield heavy and Victorian. The WA contingent is not particularly strong. Someone could pop out but they'd have to improve dramatically this year.

There are also a lot of father son and academy prospects once again who will push draft picks out. I'm almost always in preference to using our draft picks opposed to trading them but with the current state of our list on the precipice of big things, now is the perfect time to top up the list with young talent aged similarly to our existing players. McDonald is in that rare air of being a West Aussie who is very talented, plays a position we are in need of, is the perfect age and out of contract while we have a good draft hand. I wouldn't use 3 first round picks on him but depending on how he develops this season, 2 picks could be worthwhile.

Similarly, there are strong rumours about Warner's desire to head home but prying a contracted player at his age is incredibly difficult. The only way it happens is if we throw too much draft capital and he begs the Swans with the homesick excuse.

The other options this season are either not possible or I'm not interested.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

His name has come up before - Mitch Georgiades? Hope he has a poor game on the w/e but seems to have hit his straps after an acl

What has happened to Ash Johnson at Collingwood? He was so good. Is he worth some consideration?

I can't make up my mind if Georgiades is laconic or lazy. Either way I wouldn't be chasing him.

Wasn't Ash another of those rough pennies like Tyson Stengle, Marlion Pickett, Sydney Stack who we seem to avoid because of the work required off the field in order to get them on the field. Cam McCarthy and Jessie Hogan also fit into that group. It's fraught with danger but if the club has a strong culture can reap rewards as we have seen with Stengle at Geelong and they are looking at rolling the dice again with Tarryn Thomas. I don't think they are a good fit with a group as young as ours where there may be a likelihood that they influence them in a bad way.
Geelong had Eddie Betts working one on one with Stengle and Shane Mumford took Hogan under his wing at GWS so they are probably an exception
I thought Georgiades may have re signed with Port, not sure though

I'd take my picks to the draft and upgrade our depth on some stars of the future.

Well DS, given that assessment, if you did you'd probably catch him :-)

Just think we need to load up on draft talent ahead of Tassy coming in in a couple of years.

And lock away any of our current young stars who may become free agents when Tassie get to draft up their initial list. Some names mentioned on a Fox show the other night, can't remember but I think Hayden Young may have been one who Tassie could target with big AFL assisted offers This is is where any salary cap leftovers should be spent
Just looked it up, Caleb Serong was the other who becomes Free agent in that year

I'm not too worried about any of our existing players being poached, all of them seem to gel very well with each other and their positions in the team while also being well looked after by the club. They appear a committed and hard-working group.

For a trade smokey I'd be keeping an eye out to see if Jed Busslinger signs back up with the Dogs. A West Aussie KPD who went at pick 13 a couple of years ago, he didn't managed to crack the senior side in his first season last year but has shown a bit of form in the two's and is a good size at 198cm. He has some of the best hands you'll see in the air and is quite athletic, oozes potential. Still unsigned past this year and if he's homesick, I'd love to grab a Pearce replacement.

At most he'd cost the worst of our 1st round draft picks and will be 2yrs ahead of anyone drafted this year. He even swung forward a few times at colts level with some good impact. The OOFTIT's couldn't offer a better trade without using pick 1 on him either so we'd be in the prime position to poach.

As Biz says, a guy like Busslinger is the sort of player we should be looking for…..a WA boy not getting a crack.
And go hard for Shai Bolton. Sonny doesn’t have a whole lot left. Imagine replacing him with Bolton in a year or two.

Biz, what are your thoughts on Denver Grainger-Barras at Hawthorn. Was highly regarded and went early in the draft a few years ago. WA boy and a KPP back & forward (possibly).
