Sen Radio showing real class this morning with a story quoting a disgraced former umpire slandering Jordan Clark's character and calling him a spoilt brat with a history of umpire abuse. Real class SEN!! This guy is obviously a man of high moral calibre and a reliable source.

Andrew Dillon has come out this morning and said the umpires made a mistake with the touched / not touched call but the decent call was the correct.

That’s enough for me, they made the wrong call (and about another 4 key incorrect calls in the last two minutes).

Josh Tracy's mark on the wing which was called play on was a mistake.

But if they had got the initial non mark call correct then the dissent call would never have happened. I always think it's funny that footballers are held to higher standards than the umpires. Poor skills and decision making by players is open to be criticised by all and often results in them being dropped and yet no one is allowed to criticise the garbage that umpires dish up on a weekly basis and when called out by the AFL for making incorrect decisions that directly affect game results they are rewarded with another try next week. No consequences. Amazing

Steady on, Honky.

Unlike Kane Cornes, the rest of humanity are not perfect and don’t know everything about everything and always make perfect decisions.

Nobody is under more scrutiny each game than umpires. The same ones that actually make fewer errors than players, run more than most players, have their view obscured by players and have players constantly attempting to cheat appealing for frees under very loose guidelines that constitute the “laws of the game”.

Yeah, they get some wrong. Occasionally consecutively. But players sign on to play the game knowing that human error is an element, and they still need to show a level of respect higher than mouthing off when a mistake is made.

I, myself, am less tolerant in the heat of the moment than I’d like to be. But I would like to be more so and especially will try to be rational about things reflecting on them afterwards.

There are consequences for poor performance. Same as any workplace. Just not instantaneous.

Regarding the "point of infraction", does the dissent infraction occur where a player says something or does the dissent occur where the umpire hears what was said.

If you push someone in the back, the free kick doesn't occur where the umpire sees it from.

There are some things that incur penalty either where the ball is or where the incident occurred, whichever is the greatest penalty.

I’m just not sure exactly which ones but suggest that dissent is one of them.

Jango, that was one of the ones I was referring to. The others were the one when Pearce tackled a player on the 50mt and won the free kick, Aish grabbed the ball instantaneously and kicked it to an unmanned Taberner on the wing but advantage wasn’t played. Carlton then won the ball off us on Pearce’s kick and found Curnow in front of goal which bought them back to 2 points down.
The other one was when Amiss went for a mark about 25mt out from our goal and the Carlton defender put some WWE move on him where they grabbed him around the neck and dragged him to the ground with no free kick awarded.
Any of these calls go our way (the correct way), we win the game before we even worry about the touched / not touched call and following decent call.

So we now have more umpires running around on the field and they still missing obvious free kicks, a direct correlation I believe due to the fact some are clearly not up to the highest standard. This was a marguee game, 2 undefeated sides, and should have been officiated by top umpires. The 4th umpire was originally bought in to catch infringements behind the play or forward of the contest, yet these are the very infringements which are missed. Forwards being interfered with by defenders missed many times during a game. This season the umpiring has been poorer than ever before and at times it is killing my interest for the game. Thanks, AFL

Kane Cornes is obviously still suffering from the pounding he got in the ring from Nathan Brown. Could we please have other ex players/commentators lining up to do this on a weekly basis.

I play for a masters club in Melbourne called the Brunswick Mudlarks. A lot of blokes from Carlton, Brunswick, Coburg areas etc etc. Fair few of therm life long Carlton supporters. Our 55s played today (and had a handy win) so got to have a chat about the game in the Carlton heartland (our home ground is about 500m from Princess Park). Non-Carlton supporters were adamant we was bloody robbed. Even a couple of the Carlton supporters reckon we was bloody robbed. The specific incidents people seemed mostly perplexed about were the Pearce can't play on from a mark (that was called a free kick) and the Cripps throw/not holding the ball calls. A few registered their suprise that Amiss still has a head after Weitering chopped it off 10m out. IMHO the AFL is making a very difficult job impossible. And the m _ _ _ _ _ s they are paying peanuts to do it are not up to the task. They are not even m _ _ _ _ _ s but amateur enthusiasts who are probably really good at whatever their actual job is. Long overdue for the AFL to skim some of the massive layer of fat they have sitting in their coffers and create, then maintain and improve a professional full time umpire program.

Agree Gumnut. I can’t ever remember seeing so many howlers made by boundary umpires, whose only job is to call in or out. I’ve seen 4 or 5 times this season a player with the ball about a metre on the wrong side of the boundary line still called in.
And score reviews by goal umpires is beyond a joke. There must have been 7 or 8 in our game alone yesterday and not one of them overturned the goal umpires decision.

My point precisely Shady and since we're wasting all this time reviewing goals which were even to the most vision impaired amongst us as obvious goals maybe in the interest of game integrity the touched mark should have gone to a review which would have shown an obvious deflection off Aish's shoulder and a bounced ball.

I'm as upset as anyone but!
There is not a dam thing anything will happen to change any result, less chance of ours.
The fact the AFL has even came out and said there was a blue ,is exactly what i was expecting, yep admit it ,let's move on.
Nothing to see here ,let's just not devalue the game let's worry about the profile of us (AFL) and our sponsors .
Us as supporters should realise we have a great team in the making here ,i was really proud of how we went about the game yesterday, yes so many if but's etc,but fellas we are in the hunt,we are all on board this train enjoy it .
