TOPIC: Hamling

Wishing him the best, The media reports are confusing me. Hopefully he gets his body right, and doesn't regret listening to that manager he is using. A two year contract to stay in Perth, I'd love to do an objective accounting review on moving to Sydney from Perth and see where his net financial position is after 2 years.

You mention there's a recent history of players being unhappy with contract offers Morgan. Do you know who is the only constant in those supposed bad negotiations? Here's a hint, it's not anyone at Freo.

If you want to know why players have felt disappointed with their contract offers, check who each of their managers are. Hamling? Coling Young. Acres? Colin Young. Logue? Colin Young. Henry? Colin Young.

The club has its entire core of young talent signed up on long term contracts (aside from Darcy who has been absolutely glowing of the club and contract negotiations) and all of those negotiations have been smooth and very successful with players raving about the club and the process for signing back up.

The remaining Colin Young players at Freo in order of priority are Johnson (signed up long term), Chapman (signed up long term), Walters (2yr contract at his age is huge), Taberner (contracted despite a lot of injuries and fighting for a spot with the young talent), Banfield (contracted and a fringe player) and Williams (fringe player to maintain his list spot). There shouldn't be too much worry about these players leaving except Tabs if he can't get a game. If he were to leave at the end of the year, keep an eye out for how Young handles those negotiations.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Long term contracts don’t seem to deter Colin Young.
Maybe the club needs to either build some bridges with this bloke or actively discourage players from signing with him.
He’s a threat to the ultimate success of the 15 year rebuild.

Biz, I’m not saying the list managers are doing a bad job of managing the list, but there seems to be an intense focus on the top end of the list, and some perceived indifference about the fringe players.

I’d like to put all of this on Young, but that removes everyone else’s agency in events. If Young is able to convince a fair chunk of his players that Freo and/or their offers are disrespectful, despite the players being embedded in the club for 11 months of the year, then that is also a failing of the club. Bear in mind Young isn’t losing out of this situation, and the players are getting better offers elsewhere, so it seems to me the biggest loser out of the apparent spat between an agent and the club is the club. It’s up to the club to find a solution, and if that’s erring against Young’s players in the draft then I’m fine with that.

I’ve said dozens of times over the years that premierships are decided just as much (or more) by the bottom six players in a team as the top six, but I don’t think our list managers seem to agree. I think we’ll probably throw a lot of draft and salary equity at Logan McDonald, and I reckon we’d be better off if we had just paid Acres, Schultz and Henry.

If Logan Mcdonald is on the radar for the 2024 draft where does Amiss, Sturt, Treacy and Tabs (Assuming still with us) all fit into the forward line business plan ?

Amiss is our #1 KPF, Sturt is a medium forward so not the same category as the others, Tabs is almost certainly done at the end of 2024 (with freo anyway). Treacy is the only one who should be concerned.

Just wondering, out of interest, who is Logan McDonald's manager? Do we need to be concerned?

The difference is Morgan, Young is pumping up his players like they are top 5 talent in the squad and when they're not offered contracts reflecting that, Young gets his goal of being able to shop the player around for a higher contract elsewhere and a bigger pay day.

The club valuing fringe players as such and offering them contracts reflecting that is perfectly fine. I don't want to pay Logue $800K per year to be the 20th player in our 22 or Hamling big money to play at Peel. Acres is probably the only one who can actually say his contract offer was below par and even then, that was only on his very recent form and not the previous 2 years where he was contracted on a lot of money and was quite poor.

Either way, the pattern is more consistent with Colin Young dealings than Freo contract dealings.

And I, somehow, just lost a bit of love for Heath Chapman. Seemed like such a clever and self-effacing lad. Certainly not Young’s regular role victim. Voldemort must have gotten to him at a vulnerable moment when he was young and naive.

So this may give a window into the eagles woes as I assume. And bizcit can set me right they have a lot of players linked to young

If this is true then it explains the issue with local teams form.

So if you are really interested here is CSM's roster. I see they haven't updated Roxy Roux yet, and pleasingly no others on the list

The long term signing of Darcy places every single one of our young emerging talent on long term deals with the club. Amazing what happens in contract negotiations when Colin Young isn't involved.
