Apart from the hits to the head, it was a better game 40 or so years ago. The only professional sport in the world to go backwards overall in viewing appeal.

Didn’t it look great without 30 blokes inside the forward line playing a version of twister and mud wrestling.

The interchange rules changed the game and not for the better. Originally there were 2 reserves and once they were on the player off could not come back. It meant more man on man play and the midfielders rested in the forward pocket
It meant you had to conserve your running so the game was more open.

No one would have looked good playing against East Fremantle today. They were phenomenal. One of the greatest grand final performances in the 125 years and 30 flags of East Fremantle's existence.

I feel for the Peel players. Absolutely no chance today. They tried hard but it was unwinnable. East Fremantle were just far, far, far too good.

Emmett and Corbett got 11 possessions between them and scored a point - not quite what one would have expected from our 'promising' forwards. Overall a very embarrassing performance by Peel. I'm not sure what they thought they were trying to do out there.
