TOPIC: Delistings

Pretty sure Benning was never on the main list and great to see that Colyer was still getting the Collier spelling right to the end.
Also good to see no delisting for Hambling.

Benning was drafted in the national draft, never been a rookie.
There’s talk of a new veterans list we can add with Fyfe or Walters to will free up a list spot. (No salary cap relief like the old veteran’s list)
Out (so far): Colyer, Wilson, Benning, Fyfe (veteran)

Still out of contract: Hamling, Reidy (rookie)

Must upgrade: Treacy, Banfield

Potential to add to inactive list and bring in SSP: Kuek, Walker

Thanks PK, good to see some accuracy in here. This why pundits are talking of the difficulty in bring Sharp in, We have to take 3 picks in the draft, and without the speculative shifting onto veterans and inactive lists, things get tight. Not across whether we must upgrade Treacy and Banfield, or have promised?

Why does Banfield and Treacy have to be elevated? I mean, they deserve this but is there a list rule after x amount of games or seasons?

I feel like Ethan Hughes might know the answer to this.

Hopefully Schultz isn’t still on the ridiculously misused “Rookie list”.

Like to put a good word in for Trav Colyer as he cleans out his locker. Put my customary pre-season hours into watching our better games for '21 and '22 , and was surprised how often our best games and his coincided.
Now, sure, that might mean the team needed to be on top of its form for him to do well, but often he seemed to be an X-factor. Was impressed with his attack on the ball, and his footy smarts. Obviously his speed.
Sounds like he was a good citizen in the seniors and at Peel too, which doesn't surprise me.
No issue with him being de-listed. At 32 and with the club building through its young blokes, unlike Joel Hamling, he wouldn't have even been a logical go-to depth player, so that's that really.
But, anyway, good on you Trav. You did yourself proud.

Hypen: yes the limit is 3 years on the rookie list, before you must be elevated.

Morgan: indeed, Hughes has spent 2 lots of 3 years on the rookie list.

The only downside of delisting and re-rookie listing someone is they then gain free agency status for the rest of their careers, which is why it was stupid to rookie Schultz a few years ago as he’s now a free agent every time his contract expires.

Current players who have previously been delisted so have free agency already include: Hamling, Wagner, Hughes, Banfield and of course Schultz, so I’d assume if the club needed to delist someone to place on the rookie list it would come from that list. Hamling and Hughes make the most sense to me as the oldest of that group.
